Happy Birthday, Mom!

Proverbs 17:6
Children's children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.

Even though the photo above is taken eight years ago, my mother, Nancy, looks very much the same now as she did then.  (Regrettably, I don't think I inherited those genes!)  We are blessed that Mom's health is exceptionally good - she still drives, does her own shopping, and makes homemade bread that's to die for!  Her only age-related ailment is hearing loss, but the hearing aids, though far from perfect, do help.  All things considered, it's hard to believe she will be turning 90 on July 28th!

We will be celebrating Mom's birthday at her home on that day.  She will be surrounded by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who all love her.  I do wish, though, that my Dad, Bill, was still here to mark this milestone with us.

That being said, I will not be blogging next week.  I will be driving to Oxford mid-week to help my brother plan for Saturday's festivities.  And as usual when in the land of unreliable internet, I won't be making my regular rounds to all my blogging buddies.

But hang in there!  I'll be back soon, hopefully with a passel of family photos and sweet, precious memories to share with you.

Until then, may God bless and keep you in His love and grace.

Amen!

  4. Whenever I hear stories like this my heart aches a little but rejoices more. I lost my parents when I was young so my children never had grandparents. Very glad to see how much you appreciate and love your mom

    1. Carol, to be honest, my Mom and I didn't always have the best of relationships. It has literally taken years to heal and come to an understanding. I thank God for that. He taught me to forgive, forget, and simply love. What more could I ask for?
I'm so sorry you lost your parents when young. Yet, I'm sure you've taken the lessons they taught you to heart, and moved ahead because of their positive influence upon you.

    1. I will definitely let Mom know your birthday wishes, Kim! She can get on her dinosaur computer to check email, but doesn't. With my brother there, maybe we can catch her up with the process.

  6. Have a wonderful time with your family. 90 is a wonderful birthday to reach! Not many are so blessed. I know your mother will enjoy having her loved ones surrounding her on her special day. I think your Dad will be watching from heaven's windows, and he'll probably blow her a kiss or two. We will be celebrating my MIL's 95th birthday tomorrow. (the date is the 23rd). Although she is in a nursing home, she will enjoy being with her family and will love having a little party. We had a big one for her 90th...I can't believe that was 5 years ago already. Time really flies...so cherish every moment you can..

    1. Whoa, Pamela, you all are so blessed to have a mom living that long! How many can even say that??? She is a beautiful lady, as I've seen from your photos, and I will keep her in prayers. Her birthday coincides with my youngest grand, Alexandra Nancy, who was born on July 23rd. How fortuitous! How God weaves the webs of friends together to create a fabric of blessing for all of us who worship Him.
