Autumn's Peace

John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

I watch
Leaves falling
Drifting
Color brown
Wanton wind
Bids them down
Down, down
Never again
To rise
Green and supple
Duty done
They rest
On deck and porch
On forest floor
They rest
In peace
Forever peace
No understanding
Only peace

~

How are you experiencing the peace of God in your life today?

Prayer:  Father, we see the seasons change and we know You change the seasons of our lives.  May we live as those who know Your unsurpassed peace no matter what our ability to understand.  In Jesus' name, we pray.  Amen.

  1. I realize seasons come and go-in the world and in life. Peace is a rock whether it is changing drastically or whether it is changing little by little. To answer your question: yes, in spite of...

    1. Yes, Bill, in spite of all the changes, God's peace is the same today, tomorrow and forever.

  2. Martha, the timing of your post is extra meaningful. On Sunday I heard some news that clearly is leading me in to a new season this summer. The news isn't bad (I knew it would be coming at some point--it was simply a matter of when); it just really changes things. When I heard the news, I felt such peace--it was God--all God.

  3. Hi Martha! I think I just experienced peace right here!
I like walking on nature paths and arboretums; especially this time of year. When I see a leaf fall from a tree, I wonder at how it held on to that branch until I showed up to see it's last dance. So special.

Your poem was so descriptive! Thank you for sharing it. "Duty done" Yes, I guess that's true. What a spectacular way to go out, blazing in color and flying in the wind... Pretty nice!
    Blessings,
    Ceil

    1. Ceil, when I see leaves fall, I always think of them as dancing, too, giving their final performance and giving it their all. And oh, yes, how lovely are their "costumes" as they spiral and whirl in the breeze.
So glad you experienced peace in reading the poem, too. That sure makes my day!

  4. So thankful for His peace in helping through a long list of to dos, plus a time consuming distraction . . . and doing it all without stress or anxiety. This is my favorite time of the year and you gave it such a beautiful word picture. Blessings to you my friend!

    1. Deb, I'm so touched that this poem resonated with you. Glad to know, too, you are moving forward without stress or anxiety. Those two can deplete so much energy from our souls; something we definitely do not need. Continue to let go and let God!

  5. The peace is always there Martha - we just have to stop and take it in. We have to slow down, shut off our phones and breathe in the peace:) Lovely piece (pun intended) of poetry.

    1. Lovely peace . . . Yes, Vishnu, it is always there and ripe for the taking. We only need to reach out in faith and grab hold. God is waiting patiently. Love the pun!
