And now abide faith, hope, love, these three, but the greatest of these is love. ~ 1 Corinthians 13:13
When I was just a kitten
I had no idea
How life would unfold
How my heart would grow
When I felt the beat
Of sweet human love
Pulsing beneath my paw
Comfort unconditional
Unfailing, devoted, true
In hope, faith and love
Even death, inevitable
Will never separate us
I'm not getting younger
But your love has let me know
That there will never be
An end. We will go on
Together. Together forever.
Amen!
The incredible love that my granddaughter, Virginia, shares with cat, Henry, speaks volumes to the health of her heart, and testifies to the open acceptance of caring for all God's creation, a concept we should readily embrace. It helps us to be humble, knowing that even if the Lord cares for us deeply, He never forgets the sparrow. What if we were all so mindful?
How very true Ms. Martha. If you want to truly know the heart of a person, observe how they treat those they think they have control over. Of course, animals are quick to tell you, "They're in charge of our lives", and in some ways perhaps they are. LOL I think your Miss Virginia's heart is a window of all that is being poured into her. God's blessings; and glad I can post comments again.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad the comments are once again working for you, J. D., and I so appreciate your kind words here today. I have to agree that you can tell a whole lot about a person by how they treat animals. Virginia has always had a big heart.

Does that mean I have to like cats? LOL. I am not and never have been one but I know there are those who do. Virginia is one of them. She has a big heart (Like her gammy) which I pray will continue to grow, especially for people. I know someone named Martha will do her best to nurture that.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your kind words, Bill! Yes, I will do everything I can to encourage Virginia in the best ways I know how. I'm so grateful that she has such a big heart already.

They stay with us long after they're gone. I can remember each one of the pets I had, including Petey the Parakeet when I was 4.
ReplyDeleteYou are absolutely right about that, Glynn. I remember our first family dog like it was yesterday; how I loved her!

Dearest Martha Jane,
ReplyDeleteIt is so valuable for any child to bond with a pet.
That teaches all about unconditional love and caring for a living being.
Will also impact the human relationships and of course, makes us all understand the relation with our heavenly Father!
Hugs,
Mariette
You are absolutely right on all counts, Mariette. So glad for the affection Virginia and Henry share.

Just when I think your Virginia couldn't be any more beautiful, This. 💜 I'd like to see your poem hung in every veterinary office and shelter.
ReplyDeleteOh, what a sweet thought, Myra! That would be the perfect place to display it.
DeleteAnd yes, I must agree that Virginia gets prettier all the time.

Martha Jane, if we could all love so deeply, it would be a much better world for all. My daughter was here this past week with her dog,Bandit. I do not like animals in my house, but he is royalty. I laugh and tell her, when I pass away, I want to come back as Bandit. 😁😁 sweet blessings to you my friend.
ReplyDeleteBandit sounds like a gem of a dog, Nells, and I'm glad he's captured your heart so profoundly.

"There will never be / An end. We will go on / Together. Together forever." I believe Romans 8:19-21 gives proof to the conclusion of your poem, Martha, that our beloved pets may very well be with us in heaven! P.S. I agree with Barbara above: your beautiful granddaughter looks a lot like you!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words here, Nancy, and for the scripture reference. Makes me feel that I certainly am on the right track! I'm flattered, too, that both Barbara and you think Virginia looks like me. :)

If everyone was that mindful, the world would be a much better place. I love that photo of Henry and Virginia!! xo
ReplyDeleteI love the photo, too, Terri as it inspired this poem. And yes, I agree that the world would be a better place if we all practiced the art of loving well.
