I Love You, God!

Virginia Rose showing love to sister, Savannah Jane

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

During the month of May, I see my granddaughter, Virginia Rose, nearly every day during the week.  The reason?  Her baby sister, Savannah Jane, has to stay at the hospital treatments which I recently wrote about here.  Virginia and I have always been close, but during this time period, we truly cement those bonds.  Now that the family is home and together, her mom, my daughter, Sarah, tells me that Virginia asks daily when she can visit with her Gammie.  How sweet is that?

But, what is sweeter still is the heartwarming habit Virginia has picked up.  It's no longer enough to give her Gammie and Papa big hugs to let us know how much she loves us.  She now has to say so, and frequently!

"I love you, Gammie!"

"I love you, too, Virginia!"

Two minutes later:  "I love you, Gammie!"

"I love you more!"

And, on and on this love fest goes until something eventually diverts Virginia's attention and plops her down on a new track.  It isn't long, though, before she's back to declaring her love for me.  I never tire of hearing those words, nor do I tire of responding to them.  And, I'm sure this won't be the last time I say this in a post:  There is something especially precious and preciously special about the relationship between grandparents and grandchildren!

Virginia's verbal declarations of love get me thinking.  We know we love God.  He knows we love Him.  But, how often do we actually tell Him we love Him?  Do we ever declare our love out loud?  Like any parent or grandparent, wouldn't He cherish hearing those words, "I love you, God," once in a while?

After all, God so loved us that He sent His only Son, Christ Jesus, to die for our sins and reconcile us once and for all to our Father in Heaven.  The least we can do is thank Him.

The best we can do is to shout aloud these precious words:  "I love You, God!"

~

How often do you speak the words, "I love You, God!"?

Prayer:  Dear Father, help us to tell You how much we love You each and every day.  Let us become as little children, climbing up into Your lap, giving You a huge hug, and saying, "I love You, God!"  Thank You for loving us so much that You sent Jesus to save us and give us eternal life.  It is in His name we pray.  Amen.

  1. Touching post, Martha. Thank you for sharing. I tell God (Jesus and the Holy Spirit, too) "I love you"--every morning as I'm waking up. Many times I say it throughout the day and again at night.

    Love and blessings!

    1. Oh, I love "Ammie" as a grandma name! And, I think it's just fine to call God by a loving, personal name. Abba, maybe?
