Live With Wonder

Mark 9:15
As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.

Live with wonder - Never lose your sense of wonder.  Look for ways God is working in your life and the lives of people around you. ~Deb Wolf at Counting My Blessings

My tagline for Meditations of my Heart reads, "Finding the miraculous in the mundane."  It pinpoints what I've attempted to do during the lifetime of this blog.  Sharing personal and ordinary experiences which reflect the presence and involvement of God in the everyday simplicity and, sometimes, seemingly insignificant circumstances of the day-to-day lives we lead.

Because all is holy in His sight.

All.

Living in a chaotic world, one which is anything but just, fair and loving, it is easy for us as adults to view days through jaded, and even fearful, eyes.  We know in our hearts that Christ has overcome the world; therefore, we are not to be afraid.  Yet our minds too often dupe us into the false pretense that we are powerless in the face of the great evils surrounding and threatening us.  We are consumed by the forest clamoring for our attention, and consequently, cannot see the unique beauty of individual trees.

That's not how I wish to live my life.

That's not how I wish to see God's creation.

I reflect upon the shining eyes of our granddaughter, Virginia Rose, when she first spies our Christmas tree with its merrily twinkling lights and its lower branches for her to decorate.  Hers are eyes aglow with joy, excitement, and eager anticipation.

Eyes filled to overflowing with wonder . . .

That's how I wish to see God's creation.

That's how I wish to live my life.

I want to be overwhelmed with wonder, just as the people who saw Jesus were, and ran to greet Him.  I long to see God working in my life and in the lives of others in a fresh and unfettered way.

With the innocent eyes of a child, radiant with wonder, let me see anew, dear Lord, let me see anew.  And run to You with arms open wide!

~

I have chosen "wonder" as my one word for 2015.  Have you decided what one word will guide and inspire your New Year?

Prayer:  Dearest Father, God of Wonders, overwhelm us each and every day with Your glory that we might see the works of Your hands with the innocent and wonder-filled eyes of a child.  We thank You for all Your blessings as we begin this New Year with hope, faith and trust in You.  May we always be ready to run and greet You!  In Jesus' name, amen.

  1. Wonder is a wonder-full word! I know that God is going to reveal so many new aspects of it to you. It's a good word because we need to keep our eyes open and expectant in order to capture the wonder. And I know that you will do exactly that!

Hope you had a nice holiday season. May the Lord richly bless you as we begin this new year.

    GOD BLESS!

  4. Martha, may we all throughout 2015 live our lives with a sense of wonder at the world around us. All we need to do is look to the small children around us at how they can so easily find wonder in every day life. Your word for the year is well-chosen. Our God is certainly a God of wonder.

My word? I'm not totally sure...thinking possibly trust?

    Love and blessings!

    1. Oh, yes, Kim, I know that my granddaughters always help me to see the wonder of life. I'm hoping that they will be a continuing inspiration to me in my year of wonder.
I like the word "trust." I think it would be a great choice for you, my friend. Just remember, though: You don't find the word, it finds you. :)

  6. I love the lessons and reminders taught from the little ones. It's possible to see simply the profound things of God when we ask in faith to do so. Faith is the everyday life can bring the eternal into view. Good post to start the year with.

  7. Martha, your words reminded me that as His children, "greater are those who are for us than those who are against us." Praying to keep my eyes on the wonderful and the miraculous. Many blessings to you this year my friend!

    1. Oh, Deb, so needed that reminder that there are hosts of saints cheering us on. Glad you are praying to keep your eyes on the wonderful and miraculous. Those blessings surround us continuously when we open our eyes to see with God's eyes!

  8. My prayer during the Christmas season for me and for my readers was not the normal "May you see Jesus as the reason for the season" (a statement I don't agree with). My prayer instead was "May you know the wonder of the season." I want it to go beyond the season. I want it to last throughout 2015.

    1. Oh, I do, too, Bill! That's one of the reasons I chose this word (or, rather, it chose me). Let's hope everyone will "know the wonder of the season" all year round!

  9. He is wonderful and His creation, this universe is also wonderful! Many times in this winter I find even the dense fog to be wonderful! How it makes everything translucent and intriguing!
    Nice post!

    1. Oh, what a coincidence, Portia! This week alone, we have had three days of drizzle and heavy fog, something we don't usually get here in Georgia at the higher elevations. It is mystical and magical and fills me with wonder at how it feels to literally be in a cloud!
