Freedom's Not Free

I will walk about in freedom, for I have sought out your precepts. ~Psalm 119:45

I embrace freedom

If it costs me life itself

Remember me, please?

Have joy, give thanks for

All who died to assure you

That freedom's not free.

Amen!

Have a blessed Memorial Day, my friends, and please take time today to pray for all our active troops, our veterans, and the precious souls who died in the service of this great country.

  2. Thanks Martha for the focus. I tried to do that yesterday during our worship services. I have prayed this morning in gratitude for the free country we live in and the lives where the ultimate sacrifice was paid and where many came home maimed in some way or to an ungrateful people (I'm thinking of VietNam especially). I'm also grateful to the men and women who served with honor and are still here. May you and Danny have a thanks-filled Memorial Day.

  7. A beautiful poem, Martha. So many lives lost and it seems there are people today who don't understand or respect what freedom has cost.

  8. Oh, what a debt of gratitude we owe these men, women and K-9's, too. There's been only One other who made such a sacrifice -- all in the name of love.

  9. Thank you Ms. Martha. Nearly everyone who served, during times of war or conflict, have suffered the loss of buddies. More, I think, today, I think of the families of all those who gave their lives to preserve freedom. I join you in heartfelt appreciation for their sacrifice.

  11. thecontemplativecat here. So many stories of sacrifice and death have come out most recently about Vietnam. We live in an area near Camp Pendleton, and too often see patriots who came back injured. Thanks for this post.

  13. It is so sad to see the freedoms those dear souls bled and died for slipping away right before our eyes. I can't believe all that is happening to our country. God is our only hope, and they are trying their utmost to take Him out of everything. It is just heartbreaking.

    1. It is heartbreaking, indeed, Cheryl. We need, with God's help, and all that is within our power, to stop those who would tear down every value and moral America stands for.

  14. Thanks again, dear friend, for reminding us in simple yet deeply touching words that freedom is a priceless gift of God that millions of courageous men and women sacrificed their lives to protect and defend for us. And let's never forget that there were, and are, millions more whose bodies and minds were irrevocably affected by an enemy they never saw face to face. We are indebted to them and admonished by God to honor them by refusing to give away the freedom they paid such an awful price to ensure for us.

    1. You hit the nail on the head, Ron! Freedom is a priceless gift from God, and the least we can do, is honor those who gave their lives in service to this country that we might enjoy that freedom today. May we always cherish their memories.
