He must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil's trap. ~1 Timothy 3:7
Surprised, suspended between heaven and earth
Tossed about by errant breezes wild
Caught in stray strand of spider's web
Held fast by sticky, stubborn thread of silk
Bane of insects, now the trap for leaf
Where to go? What to do? Expecting
Help to arrive with God's grace
Save me from the snares of sin, free me
For the mission You have ordained
That my journey here on earth persists
Until I hear Your call: Come Home!
Amen
It seems just like that, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteIt certainly does, Glynn.

Yep ... I agree. We're hanging by a thread. In His care.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Hanging by a thread in His care, that's for sure, Victor.

Sometimes this can be said of me I think. I'm hanging on by a thread, by the "hair on my chinny chin chin." But I realize this refers to the trap the enemy has set. And just as walking through a spider web is annoying, so is he and the traps he sets. I only wish I could brush them aside like I do the web. Your poem is a challenge and a warning.
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind and encouraging words today, Bill. The devil's snares are everywhere, and we must depend of the Lord to help us avoid them. Yes, a challenge and a warning!

Beauitful! Especially, I like "Expecting help" v. merely "hoping."
ReplyDeleteThank you, Myra. When we live as Christians, we can rest assured that God's help will come in time.

Beautifully said, Martha. I'm glad that thread is strong.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bill. God's thread is always stronger than the devil's.

During our lives we often find things hanging by a thread but it is often a strong thread, held by God
ReplyDeleteThat is oh, so true, too, Jo-Anne. When we are secure in God's thread, we know He will never leave or forsake us.

Beautifully written, Martha. Such a picture of life. I'm so grateful God's grace will never let us go even when it feels like we're hanging on by a thread! Love and blessings to you!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, Trudy. When we are secure in the Lord, our foundations are set in stone. We need never be afraid.

I like your phrase, "save me from the snares of sin." Good prayer.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to know you liked that phrase, Barbara, and enjoyed this poem/prayer today.

Well said, Martha. Amen.

I love the imagery of always being connected to Him and heaven (home). I especially appreciate the "free me for the mission You have ordained". We must be willing to let God lead us to where He wants us to go and what He wants us to do. So often, we want to scream, "scoot over and let me drive, Lord". In reality, we need to surrender the driving of our lives to Him. Thank you and God's blessings Ms. Martha Jane. Always a big fan ma'am.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, J. D., for your kind and thoughtful words here! God does have a mission for us, one He will definitely show us when we put Him squarely behind the wheel. It's not about us - never has been and never will be. Only God is in control.

What an interesting perspective, Martha. Easy to remember.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Diana! I'm glad to know that the poem made this concept easy to recall.

Fascinating picture of how the devil spins his sticky threads of temptation around in ways that can snare us without warning. Beautifully done, Martha, and so very relevant. God bless you for sharing your insights gifts in ways that grip our hearts and minds in a good way.
ReplyDeleteThank you most sincerely, Ron, for your kind and complimentary words here. Yes, the devil can spin his evil webs of deception we don't even see coming our way. May we be ever watchful! (By the way, the day after Danny took this photo, the leaf broke free - God will do the same for us.)

Amazing words and imagery here, Martha! Love this, "Expecting Help to arrive with God's grace". Yes, indeed! God's marvelous grace frees us from sin and frees us to our calling in Him. God bless, Martha.

DeleteThanks so very much, Karen, for your sweet words here. I could tell just by your style of writing that "anonymous" was actually you! We all know that God won't leave us trapped or abandoned when we are His children. Let us simply have faith and trust in Him.
DeleteLoved your blog today!

For sure, the enemy of our souls is wandering around looking for whoever he can devour. God, protect us and keep us from the traps the enemy keeps trying to set. May we never disgrace Your Holy name.
ReplyDeleteAmen, Linda! May we never disgrace our loving Father.

Thank you for that lovely poem Martha Jane. Yep, it is that time of year again, spiders everywhere! Your writing might change the way I look at them :)
ReplyDeleteWe've had more spiders this past summer than we have ever seen in our woods. Perhaps, it's because our insect population also increased by leaps and bounds. I'm so glad you enjoyed the poem, Marja!
