Our Grand Grands

Children's children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children. ~Proverbs 17:6

Every year that our family visits us, the grandchildren, even Virginia, want to have an Easter egg hunt in Gammie and Papa's backyard, as Easter has either just passed or is in the offing, as it is this year.  This year is no different.  Daughter, Sarah, and I fill the sturdy and colorful plastic eggs with cash and candy, counting carefully to make sure that each girl will find an equal amount in their designated search area.  While I keep the girls occupied indoors with a game of Uno, John and Sarah, along with Danny, play the role of the Easter Bunny.

The girls are eager to begin their search and do so with pure delight.

After their successful finds, the girls open their treasures, and all siblings will do, count their money and compare the amount to that of their sisters.  How delighted they are to discover that among their haul of dollar bills, there is that "Golden Egg" with a $5 bill inside.

How we wish the whole crew could have stayed with us through Easter Sunday, but we have to say our good-byes on Holy Saturday as they all have to return to school and work.  Our prayers for their safe travels are answered by a listening and loving God, and we are so grateful to Him for all our blessings!

Did you enjoy a special Easter this year?  Feel free to tell us in the comments!

Amen!

  2. What a lovely family tradition. And how wonderful you are building fond memories for the future. It reminds me of our Christmases and Easters when I was young. Thank you, Martha.

God bless you and all your family.

    1. It certainly has become a new tradition here at the Orlando house, Victor, and I love that we can keep it going as long as the girls would like. I'm glad this brought back fond memories of your childhood celebrations, too.

  3. Dearest Martha Jane,
You were lucky for having your daughter, son–in–law and granddaughters staying with you pre–Easter!
    More fond memories made together.
Yes, our Easter was a meaningful one, singing with the chancel choir + orchestra and Pieter enjoying it from his pew during Easter Sunday Mass.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  4. Good morning, Martha. You and Sarah made such cute co-conspirators! You're making me think no-one's "too old" to participate in an Easter egg hunt. Next year (God willing), I may try to plan something like that for my little family. As ever, thank you for sharing your grand-grands with us!

    1. Thanks so much, Myra, for sharing such sweet words about my family. And you are so right about never being too old in any activity that recalls the joys of childhood. After all, Jesus told us that if we don't embrace Him as a child, how can we hope to enter His kingdom!

    1. I hear you, Billy. Many folks are not with their children or grandchildren during the holidays because of work or distance of travel. In the States, many churches offer opportunities for the senior members to participate in planning Easter events for children in the parish and/or community. Our church had an Easter egg hunt after church this year, and it was such fun for young and old alike.

    1. The weather was perfect, Nancy! In fact, during that week, we only had one inclement day, and since Danny is our weather watcher in our family, he predicted that Friday would fit the bill. He was right!

  7. Y'all have a lovely family. The photos are great! Such a pretty area too.
Our Resurrection Sunday was really good. The sermon was fulfilling, inspiring and educational. There aren't many in attendance these days. Seems that most have given up on corporate worship. Sad, really. This privilege will be taken away from us soon I'm sure if someone stays in office. I can see it comin'. Just like Nazi Germany in the late '30s. Church won't be missed until it's been taken away. I keep praying for a great awakening before it goes that far. ❤️‍🔥🙏
    Blessings. 🤗

    1. Thanks so much about your kind words regarding our family, Sparky - that means so much!
I'm a bit taken aback that in the Bible-belt, there were so few in attendance at your church. The devil has a stronger hold on believers than we could envision, but he is always seeking that chink in God's armor that we wear. It's up to us to boldly proclaim God's promises and His saving grace more than ever, and keep us safe beneath His wings.
As the saying goes: If we don't learn from history, we are doomed to repeat it. May we learn history so we can move forward positively with God's Word in our hearts.

  8. Thank you once again for inviting us to share another very special time at your place along with your beautiful family. And as you are so prone to do, you upgraded our enjoyment by including the brignt and colorful pictures. As you repeatedly reinforce for us again and again, the real treasures we accumulate in life are not the stuff we acquire, it's the everlasting joy of the love relationship we share with the Lord Jesus, our physical family and those wonderful spiritual siblings we discover along the way. God bless you for allowing us to rejoice with you at such a spiritually invigorating time of year. In all the ways that endure, you and Danny are wealthy beyond anything the world could offer.

    1. Ron, we are so blessed that God has given us a strong bond with Him so we can continue to pass that love on to our children and grandchildren whom we love so unconditionally. I do hope and pray that this is the best legacy we can leave to those we love, not just because we are biologically related, but that we recognize that we are, first and foremost, all children of God, made in His image. Love only exists because our heavenly Father first loved us. I pray that other families will pass this most worthy legacy to the generations to come.

  9. Oh, I love that picture on the steps! Memories made and are so very special. I hope the girls continue to enjoy the egg hunts, even as they get older. Something wonderful to look forward to. They are growing up fast and are so pretty, Martha. Thanks for sharing the love with us!! xo

    1. I'm so glad you enjoyed this post, Terri! You certainly understand the strong bonds of love that can develop and last in a blended family as is obvious in your love for your wonderful stepsons and the beautiful grandchildren. And when those bonds are further grounded in love for our heavenly Father, as I told Ron in the comment above, we are leaving them the best legacy of love the world has ever known.

    1. Thanks for your kind words, Lisa. It's refreshing to hear that some adults still put the Easter egg hunt into practice, even if little ones are not around. And no matter how old we get, we can never outgrow the love of Jesus and what He did for us on that long-ago Easter morning.

  15. Every time I see a picture of the grands I marvel at how they have grown. Relish the time with Virginia as she gets older. The fact she still wanted to participate is a good thing. We have a grandson who used to but now is "too old" for games and spending time with grandpa and mamaw. I'm glad you had a great time with them. Us? We worshiped together in a place big enough for all of us then Jo and I went out for lunch and Tami went home (she had school the next day).

    1. I do love that Virginia still wants to be part of the event when they're with us. I think boys are much more likely to say they're too big to do that anymore, especially because their peers won't think they're "cool." As long as Braden celebrates the real reason for Easter, he can never go wrong!

  16. Since Easter was right after my husband's surgery and hospital stay, our holiday was low-key with a simple diet. But joyful all the same, so grateful for successful surgery.
