Could We Ask for Anything More?

Matthew 4:4
Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.'"

As we plan our trip for my husband, Danny's, 40th high school reunion, reliable places to dine are at the top of our list.  A brunch has already been arranged for Sunday at a reputable establishment, Coastal Kitchen, near St. Simon's Island.  When Danny spies a special Thursday night deal for dining, he makes reservations on-line for us.  This should make the day of our arrival, after an arduous drive, delightfully rewarding.

An e-mail arrives from my brother, Bill, who lives in the St. Simon's area with his wife and children.

"How about meeting for lunch on Friday at Coastal Kitchen?"

Three times at the same restaurant?  Oh, heck, why not?  If it's so good even the locals long to go there, we can't go wrong.

And, we don't.

Not only do we have spectacular service, but the seafood is so fresh and delectably prepared, I can still taste it as I sit here writing this post.  Fried shrimp on Thursday.  Crab cakes with perfect Southern grits on Friday.  Lobster omelet for Sunday brunch.

Yum!

Exquisite food topped off by exquisite views . . .

Could we ask for anything more?

Then, I have a thought . . .

Reading the Bible is much like returning again and again to a favorite restaurant.  We know our souls will be well fed by God's Word.  Our spirits can savor the Scriptures, even those we have read and reread a thousand times, and find comfort and nourishment.

And, we are never, ever, disappointed by the fare.

For the Bible's menu is vast.  There is a feast to be had in every verse.

And, with the Bread of Life, we are filled . . .
~
Are you nourishing yourself with God's Word?

Will you join me in prayer?
We thank You, Father, for the Holy Scriptures, Your inspired Word, which feeds our hungry souls and guides us toward righteousness.  May we always remember that we do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from You.  Amen.

  7. Seafood is my favorite and I could eat it for every meal as well. I was definitely jealous just reading the post... The Bible is a smorgasbord of sustenance as well. Stories for the faint of heart, advice for the confused and always God's truth and love beneath it all. Great analogy.

    1. Hi, Lynne, thanks for stopping by!
I think I could eat seafood just about every day, too, especially when it's fresh off the boat like it was here. :)
And, indeed, the Bible is a feast of plenty always, no matter what we are going through in life. Glad you liked the analogy!
      Blessings to you!

  9. You were able to give me a new way of seeing the Bible :) And it makes the Bible more approachable and loveable to visit regularly. As a restaurant, ooo, I love looking at the menu. Tasting the words, well, digesting could be difficult at times. But to be truly faithful to God's Words... that IS where the real challenge lies :) I was able to appreciate the Bread of Life more. I'll reflect on this deeply...

I'm glad you had a good time with Danny ~ and the images are really awesome. They will be great as postcards ;)

I pray with you, may we come to know of this Bread that gives Life in its fullest sense. May everyday be a Eucharist for us ~ for sharing Your Word nourishing us in every way.

  10. Once again, dear Melissa, I don't know how I missed your comment here for so long. :( Please forgive!
I'm glad this helped you to look at the Bible in a different way. It truly has a lengthy menu and we can always find nourishment in His Word.
And, oh, yes, I love the idea that every day be a Eucharist for us, giving thanks to the Lord for His great sacrifice of love.
    Blessings always, my dear!
