Growing Up

1 Peter 2:1-3
Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander of every kind.  Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, now that you have tasted that the Lord is good.

On the last day of 2015, our granddaughter, Virginia Rose, loses her first baby tooth!  This Gammie's heart realizes in one beat that our precious darling is growing up too fast.  Can i place a brick on her head to slow her down?  Please?

Why, it seems like only yesterday that she was just a baby.

My, how she has changed in her five short years here on earth.

And although we, as adults, are no longer physically growing like Virginia, we continue, as Christians, to grow daily in our faith.  Some of you reading this may be new Christians, those desiring spiritual milk, but not yet ready for solid food.  Others of you are seasoned in your walk with the Lord, sitting down to three squares a day and topping them off with a delectable dessert.

No matter where you are on your Christian journey, each of you has tasted the goodness and grace of our God through Christ Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

And every day, you crave more and more of God's presence in your life.

And that is a good thing.

A great thing.

The best thing.

For it means you are growing up in your salvation.

May you never cease to grow in the Lord!

~

Where are you in your Christian walk?

Prayer:  Father, we give thanks today for Your gift of salvation through Christ Jesus and for Your continual presence in our lives as we continue to mature in our faith.  When it comes to knowing You more, may our cravings never cease.  In Jesus' name, we pray.  Amen.

  1. Fun watching kids grow up. Fun watching people grow in their faith as well. Good points Martha. Cute granddaughter as well. :)

  2. Hi Martha! What encouragement I feel here as I read your words! I think sometimes I'm eating that solid food, but then fall back to the 'milk stage'. But that's okay, because at least I'm still trying.
Thank you for your wonderful words that just lifted me up this morning! And yes, seeing your little Virginia grow up before your eyes (and now mine!) is such a wonder. I totally understand that you want to slow things down...savor it all on a slow speed. What a joy though, that you are so closely in her life. She is a blessed little one!

    Happy Tuesday!

    1. Thank you once again, Ceil, for your kind and thoughtful words here. So gratified to know this post lifted your spirits as you read it.
And I certainly hear you about our faith walks; sometimes it is two steps forward and one step back. The important thing is to keep our eyes focused on the Lord and to keep moving. :)

  3. I think as we age and mature our walk changes with the Lord, we draw near and inward and focus more on what is eternal and less external. It is good to see changes both in our grand children and ourselves.

    1. Sharon, I have to agree with you here. Maybe it is simply growing older, but I know that I am much more focused inward and on the eternal than I was just years ago. It's an amazing journey, this walk with the Lord, isn't it? And may we all change for the better in His eyes.

  4. Martha, I love your insights here. Our spiritual growth is like our physical growth, at least to an extent. Those "growth spurts"--physical,emotional, spiritual--take an amazing amount of energy. However, the end results are worth it.

This year, I've sort of decided to focus in on the word "abide". Abiding in Christ...I can do nothing without Him. I desire to draw closer to Him and truly live supernaturally.

How exciting for Virginia that she has lost her first baby tooth!

    Love and blessings!

    1. Yes, Kim, we do go through growth spurts in our spiritual walk, that's for sure! I love that your word for the year is "abide." It is perfect as inspiration that we can only fulfill God's plans for us if we are completely dwelling in Him.

  6. hi Martha - I do crave more of God's presence in my life but noticed it's a two way street. I have to be willing to slow down and make more time for Him which is on the daily habits list for 2016:) Thank you for your blessings and adorable photos.
