I Will Wait

Isaiah 40:31

But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles,
they shall run and not be weary,
they shall walk and not faint.

I will wait
At the stop light
In the store line
For the phone call
I will wait
For the prognosis
The doctor's take
A needed answer
I will wait
For wayward child's
Return home
To loving arms
I will wait
For floral spring
Pregnant summer
Delivering fall
I will wait
In winter's grip
All is stalled
Frozen, still
I will wait
Upon the Lord
Upon His promise
I will wait

Amen

  1. Waiting is hard because of my agenda. Waiting is part of daily life- grocery lines, stop lights, the bank- you name it. Waiting on God is hard because I think I know best. But as you put it so well- winter will give way to spring so I will wait. Well said Martha.

    1. Waiting has always been one of my challenges, too, Bill, hence this poem/reflection. But God will renew our strength when we lean into Him with expectant waiting.

  2. It seems to me Martha that we are spending our lives waiting. Waiting for one thing or another as if we are never satisfied until we get what we are waiting for.

I often wonder whether there is a "Waiting Room" in Heaven where we sit there reading out of date newspapers and magazines about the Titanic, until St Peter calls us in for our interview. Is that what the Catholics call Purgatory? Reading out of date magazines? I do that at the doctor's and dentist's!

    God bless.

    1. Lol, Victor, a waiting room in Heaven? I certainly hope not, at least under the conditions you mention here! And yes, much of our lives are spent waiting, aren't they? Best to do it patiently and with faith.

  6. I love that verse. And also the Psalm verse "For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence." The last time I had a word of the year, my word was Wait.

  9. Beautiful, Martha. Waiting. Waiting can be so challenging, yet so rewarding. When we learn to wait with expectation and openness we can learn so much. Fretting, while waiting, does zero good and just makes us and those around us miserable!

    Love and blessings!

    1. Yes, Kim, exactly! Waiting with expectation and openness is key. If we don't still our hearts, minds and souls, how can we possibly hear God's voice? When it comes right down to it, life is all about waiting, isn't it?

  12. Oh, my friend! Waiting on the dear Lord can be one of the hardest things in life. Time spent in His waiting room surely can feel like wasted time, but He is ever working behind the scenes and under the surface, isn't He? Thank you for this precious encouragement today. God bless you always. :)

  13. I am a little better at waiting at 72 then I was in my younger years. But then again, I am the years when time seems to pass way to fast. There I so much to be learned in the waiting time, lesson that do not come when we struggle to wait, one must actually wait with patience to catch a glimpse of God's wisdom. One must be still and that is getting easier too, moving fast for anything anymore is getting harder. Sitting still has become awesome for me. I am enjoying life with God more since waiting got easier. Good post.

    1. Amen, Betty! As we get older, we do slow down, whether we like it or not. And therein lies the unexpected blessings - waiting is something we now do with patience instead of impatience, and we spend more quiet time with the Lord because of it.
      Love and blessings!
