Happy New Year!

Deuteronomy 4:10
Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when he said to me, "Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere me as long as they live in the land and may teach them to their children."

The holidays behind us
Does priceless joy remain?
Do we, will we, remember?
Memories reclaim?
Resolution stated
A new year, here and now
Will we persevere
Or sway until we bow?
Promise is our guidance
Faithfulness, our balm
God is walking with us
Every fear, He'll calm.

Amen!

  1. Welcome back to Blogland, Martha. A Happy and Blessed New Year to you and your family with good health always.

Interesting passage to start the New Year. The image at the top says "to fear Me". Your quotation says "to revere me" which means respect, admire, think highly of.

I have often wondered about what God expects of us. Does He want us to fear Him as a monster who will get angry and punish every minor misdemeanour? Or does He want us to love Him and to fear hurting Him; in the way that we fear hurting or disappointing someone we love, like our parents?

I prefer the final two lines of your wonderful poem. God is walking with us. Every fear, He'll calm.

    God bless.

    1. I'm glad to be back, Victor, and Happy New Year to you!
I do like your take on what it means to fear God - the fear of hurting Him, like hurting a loving parent, should be tantamount in our hearts. Reverence for His majesty and glory is also necessary. Sometimes, I think, that the English language, as vast as it is, cannot hope to come close in describing how we feel about and honor our loving Father.
Glad you like the poem and the last two lines, my friend.

  2. Yes, a wonderful way to start the New Year, knowing that God is walking with us, and He will calm our every fear. We need not worry about the future. God is already there, clearing the way for us to pass through. Have a blessed and joyful day!

  3. I hope you had the opportunity to relax a bit and enjoyed making the new memories to carry you into the new year. I too see the fear as a humble respect that should give us pause before stepping out of bounds with the one who calls us child. It's an interesting relationship that he allows us to make our choices, but also allows us to deal with the consequences. But like my own adult children, I would be by their side to help calm the fears they have in life.

    1. I did have a relaxing break, Ryan, and am oh, so grateful for that time with family. And I feel the same about my grown children as you do about yours - I'd be there in a heartbeat if they need me for anything. Isn't that just how our Father loves us? I think so!
