Sing to the Lord, bless His name; proclaim the good news of His salvation from day to day. ~Psalm 96:2
Do you watch the news on cable television? I certainly do, but I'm a one-trick pony when it comes to my choice. It's Fox News, hands down for me. Why? Because I know I will see and hear different views and impressions about the news of the day, and even see clips from other major news outlets. Fox truly lives up to its slogan - Fair and Balanced.
Now, am I so much of a news nerd that I watch it from dawn to dusk? No way! But there are a few go-to favorites that reliably grab my time and attention. As I tend to rise early in the mornings, I like to wake up with Fox & Friends as I sip my coffee and get my bearings for the day ahead.
The hosts are always entertaining and informative, down-to-earth, and just plain likeable. Their camaraderie and candor with one another are so refreshing to see. And the special human interest features are always a plus that can add a lighthearted feel to any news of the day.
My other choices are The Five and Jesse Watters Prime Time for many of the same reasons.
I mean, honestly, how many news shows can you name that are able to interject good-natured humor and some laugh-aloud moments along with the actual news? I know I can't think of any that beats out these two in my book.
And why, might you ask, do I even like watching the news at all? Is it an obsession with FOMO, the Fear of Missing Out? No, for me it's FOBU - the Fear of Being Uninformed. I like to know what's going on in the world so I can look it straight in the eyes and deal with it accordingly. Even when the news is bad, it isn't an options for me to run away and bury my head in the sand.
Today's news cycle changes constantly. What grabs headlines on Monday may very well be tossed out of the media window by Tuesday. And if we perceive it as bad news, we gladly bid it farewell. But the good news? We wish that it could linger just a bit longer.
Still, as believers, we know the good news of God's salvation day after day. It never fails or fades away, but is new every morning. And best of all, this good news is eternal. It is our go-to headline when the world seems to have lost its collective mind.
When it comes to the Lord's good news, we can joyfully proclaim: "Extra! Extra! Read all about it!"
Amen!
Amen to your last two paragraphs. I also like to watch the Christian channels with people like Dr David Jeremiah, R T Kendall, Joyce Meyer etc ...
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
That sounds like a very healthy intake of great information, Victor. I'm so glad you liked the last two paragraphs of this post, too. God is the everlasting source of good news.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
We must be on the same track today Martha. My post is also about the news. Not quite so "unsubtle" as yours but still along the same lines. :) I'm at the office so F& F is not doable for me. But I do see it some on Friday when I'm home on my day off. As for The Five: I like the friendly banter but I cannot lie and say I'm not glad the Judge is gone. Her "let me tell you something else" got old. For liberals I like Harold much more than Jessica or some of the others. To be honest, I only watch that because Jo has it on and it is supper time. Like you, FOMO is not my issue; FOBU is. And like Victor: I agree with your last two paragraphs.
ReplyDeleteWhen I read your post this morning, Bill, I thought the same - we're on the same wave length! Danny and I both appreciate Harold on The Five as he is measured and fair. Yes, the Judge could be a bit abrasive at times, but I think she'll do great in this current administration. She's a bulldog, for sure! And thanks for your compliment of my last two paragraphs as they truly were the whole point of my post. May we all proclaim God's Good News!

We get our local news from the newspaper, such as it is. Anything beyond local news in our newspaper comes from wire services - and then the reports become questionable, often highly so. We do get the Wall Street Journal, which used to be balanced in its news and conservative on its editorial page. It's still somewhat conservative editorially, but no longer in the general news section. We rarely watch TV news, and I mean rarely. Like almost never. My main sources of news are The Free Press on Substack and Racket News, with Michael Shellenberger on Instagram.
ReplyDeleteIt's great that you mention Michael Shellenberger as he is often a guest on Fox. I've always been impressed by his demeanor and journalistic integrity. As you could probably glean from this post, I do enjoy some fun with the news I consume, and I've grown attached to the personalities we invite into our living rooms. I'm also impressed that you actually still read the newspaper, too. That's hardcore dedication!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
We do not have cable or satellite tv however we do watch the Fox channel on you-tube so we get bits and pieces of the news every morning. We follow Amir Tsfarti on Telegram on our phones. I do follow local news. I like how you tied it all together with God’s good news! That is the best news of all.
ReplyDeleteGod's news is the very best news of all, Debby, that's for sure! I'm really enjoying reading about how my blog friends get their news here today.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I’m thankful for the good news of Jesus.
ReplyDeleteI'm so thankful for the same, Diana.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
FOX NEWS and those shows hands down. Also, you are right - the final news is from GOD!
ReplyDeleteRick and I were just talking about this. We also like positive news.
We all NEED positive news in our lives, Sandie, and God's is the best news of all. Enjoy all those Fox shows. :)
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I watch our local news channel a lot.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that, Christine.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
And I love the News of God's salvation....made available to all who choose to receive. We too, watch Fox news, especially Sam. At first, I had to really work on myself to keep from being bored with it...Honesty is always good!! but I really enjoy the teams and I feel like we are getting the truth. I now watch it even when Sam is not home. Enjoy the rest of your week Martha...You are a great writer and I always enjoy the connection to what you are posting about to the spiritual realm.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Shug, for your kind and encouraging words here. I am humbled by them and so happy to have you as one of my readers. The news of God's salvation is the best news ever and forever!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
We don't watch a lot of news anymore but we do watch The Five Monday-Friday.
ReplyDeleteDanny and I both enjoy The Five every week night, Debby.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Tom mostly keeps our TV tuned to NewsMax, but having read this, now I want to make a point of tuning that in the sunroom to Fox. FOBU -- that's perfectly, put! To your last sentence ... brava! Hallelujah!
ReplyDeleteI've watched NewsMax in the past, but find these particular Fox programs to be successful in combining news with humor as I stated in the post, Myra. Let me know how you like any of these shows when you do watch them. And I'm so glad my last sentence struck a positive chord with you. Hallelujah, sister!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I am not a news nerd at all, but I will only watch FOX news, and I do turn on Fox's Good Day Tampa Bay, every morning. Traffic, weather, and top news stories - fair and balanced. Amen!!
ReplyDeleteThe local Fox station here is good, too, Terri, but I've just gotten hooked on Fox & Friends in the mornings. If I were still working, I'm sure the local one featuring weather and traffic would be a necessity. Yes, fair and balanced, always!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I listen to the radio for local news when I first get up. No tv eliminates all the nonsense that I just don't care for anymore. Time is important and I don't care to waste it.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely day, Martha.
I hear you about time being precious, Bill. Since Danny sleeps later than I do, it's a way for me to start the day in a positive way. Oh, and I listen on headphones so he won't be disturbed.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
MARTHA JANE: I had to start a new blog here on Blogger. It's "Still following my King" I invite you to follow it.
ReplyDeleteI sure will, Cecelia. Thanks for letting me know.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
We stream everything. Cut the "cord" on cable and satellite TV over 10 years ago. Don't miss it a bit. Some on these modern commercial are so disgusting, confusing and almost always lying (think Big Pharma) ... well, I'm sure you've seen them. Our news comes from YouTube's NewsMax, Liberal Hivemind, Christian Broadcasting, and others. Our local news is really sorry. Our local newspaper has gone downhill of late. I cancelled the subscription last year.
ReplyDeleteTotal agreement on the last two paragraphs. God's news is always relevant, applicable and shareable!
Blessings. ❤️
We have YouTubeTV which does have lots of commercials, I agree. I really think it's shameful that so many of them are advertising medications for ailments, some of which I've never even heard of. That's why, with some shows, we record them so we can speed through those commercials and not be subjected to them. Glad you're with me, Sparky, on the last two paragraphs - that is the eternal truth and good news we all need.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
FOX is on our TV the most for news, but we also have some fav local stations mostly for the weather reports.
ReplyDeleteYes, Barbara, the local stations are the best for weather, hands down.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
We too appreciate FOX for the reasons you mention. Hubby enjoys The Five; we watch Jesse Watters together. We watch more if important stories are unfolding. The network is going up in the polls. People are catching on!
ReplyDeletePeople are catching on, Nancy, I agree wholeheartedly! Danny and I do watch The Five together, but I have Jesse recorded so I can watch later if I need to. Yes, when there is breaking news, we do watch more just as you do.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I don't watch much TV now days, also if you told me that 5yrs ago I wouldn't have believed it
ReplyDeleteGood for you, Jo-Anne! It's difficult to stop watching television, but that's why I narrow my shows and choices to only a few.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I hope good news can linger longer, too. They will show us where value is.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't that be wonderful? We can all focus, though, even when the news is bad, on the everlasting good news of Jesus.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
No surprise that we find ourselves on the same page--or should I say "channel"--again, Martha. I run into people occasionally who say that they just don't watch the news at all because it's too controversial. Many of those same people, though, spend a huge part of their day looking at their phone, scanning social media, and whether thay realize it or not, are absorbing "news" in the from of digitized propaganda. There's distinction without much of a difference between the terms "uninformed" and "ignorant." The spiritual warfare God warned us about is real, and it cannot be reserved to a couple of hours on Sunday. In addition to the armor of God that Paul described, one of the weapons that enables us to wage this war wisely is to arm ourselves with information that is truthful and accurate. Fox news isn't perfect, no organization is,, but at least they're not openly deceitful and corrupt like virtually all so-called "mainstream" media is.
ReplyDeleteDiane and I are with you guys re. our "Fox & Friends" mornings, and we love Laura Ingram in the evenings. We're liviing in historically significant times and have a historically significant opportunity for the Church of Jesus Christ to use the opportunities we have right now to stop playing our divisive little church games and get busy bringing His Kingdom to life and show the broken, desperate, blind, and hopeless people around us that Jesus can and will forgive their sins, heal their wounds, and give them abundant life both now and forever.
Sorry to go on and on, dear sister, but you got me wound up again. Thanks for your courageous post, and we're praying that the influence you and Danny have will continue to be a powerful tool in upholding truth and clarity in these contentious times.
You're most welcome to go on and on all you want, Ron, as your comments are always brimming with compassion and common sense. And I'm not surprised in the least that you all watch Fox. No, they aren't perfect by any stretch, as none of us are, but I believe they try sincerely every day to give us the facts of the day and the implications of such actions in this country and around the globe. None of us has any excuse to be uninformed in this digital world, but we do need to make smart choices.
ReplyDeleteGrace and blessings!
Thank you for the insights Martha. The good news is still the BEST news!😉
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, Mike, I agree wholeheartedly. God's good news is everlasting!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Martha, Mike and I are the same. Fox all the way. Even if I'm at work on some weekdays, we record the morning shows and watch them later and have always watched Jesse. We're grateful they have the integrity to report the truth and especially on Fox & Friends, they mention God. And like you said, they are fun to watch and interesting. God bless!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you brought this issue up about these programs, especially Fox & Friends, not being afraid to talk about God. They always have Faith and Friends Concerts that feature Christian artists and I felt that their coverage of the new pope was so attentive to the importance of religious figures as much, if not more, than political ones. So happy to know this, Karen!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Hi Martha, I watch the local evening news for about the first 15 minutes. This lets me know the top stories and the weather. I really watch very little television.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you, Linda! Yes, I probably watch too much television at times, but I do enjoy catching these particular shows. Other than that, I do keep the TV/computer off.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
It can be difficult to discern what is true and/or false in the world of news reporting. I tend to not watch news programs. When I do it is for the trending headlines.
ReplyDeleteHugs and Blessings
I hear you, Jim. We all have different ways of digesting the news, and yes, we must be discerning in what we think is true and false. At least, we can trust in the truth of the gospel.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I believe it's good to get news from different sources and make up our own minds. So we will agree to disagree about this my friend. God bless you and Aloha
ReplyDeleteAnd that's such a great attitude to have, Cloudia. You are so much appreciated!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Sorting through the news these days can be a challenge. I usually skip the programs and just check out the top headlines when I want a quick update on what's happening.
ReplyDeleteIt can be challenging, Veronica, I agree. However, staying informed so we can face the facts is so important.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Bom dia, Martha
ReplyDeletePostagem interessante, é importante assistir o noticiário para saber o que está acontecendo no mundo. As Boas Novas de Salvação em Cristo são preciosas demais, a melhor notícia! Um forte abraço.
Absolutely, Lucinalva. The Good News of salvation is the best headline any of us can ever read.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Praise God that HIS is the good news! With Jesus at the helm, all will truly be well, no matter what the media throws our way. Thank You, Lord!
ReplyDeleteAmen to that, Linda, and again, I say, AMEN!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I liked your news extra, wish you a happy sunday
ReplyDeleteThank you, Nassah. Happy Sunday to you, too!
ReplyDeleteGrace and blessings!
(((big big smiles)))--I love the Five and Jesse and Gutfeld too.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to know that you enjoy them the same as I do, Linda.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
We do not have a television or newspaper, but I read portions of Fox News on my phone and sometimes we watch Fox shows on YouTube.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to know that, Marja, that Fox is reaching our overseas friends, too.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Thank you God that I can see! And bless my friend Martha Jane
