The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective. ~James 5:16
Our Fourth of July weekend is not at all what we expect. For several days, Danny is dealing with an intermittent cough that simply refuses to go away. When he spikes a fever last Thursday, we know he has to address this issue pronto.
Son, Nicco, to the rescue! He promptly drives over and takes Danny to a reliable urgent care just north of us. The doctor on duty determines that the next step should be a visit to the emergency room. Danny and Nicco decide that the Piedmont ER in Jasper, GA, probably won't be a madhouse this close to the holiday, and though it's a 40-mile drive, it's much less congested than it would be if they head downtown to the main Piedmont hospital.
Imagine my surprise when, in the wee hours of the morning, I discover that Danny is back home and in bed! What??? I think that at least the hospital would have kept him overnight for observation, especially when the doctor he sees says his pneumonia-like symptoms are triggered by a medication, Amiodarone, that Danny has been taking ever since the pacemaker incident in January of 2024.
Yes, the doc makes the wrong call.
The very next day, July 4th, sees a lather and repeat. But this time, Nicco takes Danny downtown where he can see doctors with whom he is familiar, and who know his medical history on a more personal level. His cardio surgeon's PA takes him off that insidious "A" drug, secures the necessary breathing treatments, and prescribes a more substantive medicine for his cough. To top it all off, the pulmonologist with whom Danny has a scheduled check up the next week, drops in for his assessment, so that nixes the need for keeping that appointment!
But here's the biggest surprise of all. Danny's oldest son, Giovanni, shows up unannounced at the hospital!!! Here are the two guys clowning around.
Having his boys with him does wonders in lifting Danny's spirits and gives him the encouragement he needs to keep on keeping on.
So much so, that Danny sends me a meme on Sunday morning stating the same phrase as is featured in the title and header of this post. How it makes my heart sing, even though it will be quite some time before we can literally return to singing together at church.
I attend our church solo that day. Lots of prayers are said and so many folks who know and love Danny are praying for his healing, which we trust will happen in God's time. Would all of you, dear readers, pray for Danny, too? I trust that all your sincere prayers to our loving Father on Danny's behalf will all be powerful and effective.
And truth be told, each and every one of us who know and love the Lord are too blessed to be stressed.
Amen!
I write the draft for this post today on Sunday afternoon. Here is the medical update on Monday from the doctors back on a regular schedule. Danny will remain in the hospital through next weekend. When he is discharged, he will most likely have to be on oxygen for a while. The damage from the Amiodarone is not to be taken lightly. He's been advised that it could take months for him to truly get over this. Continued prayers for Danny and our family are so very much appreciated. And while you're at it, please remember and pray for all the victims in the horrid flash floods in Texas over the weekend. I can't even imagine the hurt and grief these families are enduring right now, but God does.
I will keep Danny in my prayers 🙏 ❤️ dear Martha.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Linda, that's what we need.

Praying for Danny and for all of you right now.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you, Victor. Yes, every prayer matters.

I take blood pressure medicine, and when I first started the doctor prescribed one that he said was effective but caused coughing in 25% of those taking it. It worked - and I was in that 25%. The coughing wouldn't stop. We started a process of finding one that would work with no side effects -- and found one, four prescriptions later. I was blessed that there was no lingering effects from the first one. We're praying for Danny, and for you, too.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your prayers, Glynn, and for sharing your own experience here with us today. That's what the doctors are trying to do with Danny's meds, too. The coughing is better, but he still needs oxygen to help with his healing. He's determined to get well.

Keeping Danny and you in prayer. Many hugs to you.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Linda.

Prayers added and lifted, Martha! So glad Danny got to see the right doctors on his second trip to the ER. You take care, too! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Terri, for your prayers. Yes, I'm so thankful that Danny is exactly where he needs to be at this point in addressing his issues.

I will certainly be praying for Danny and you as well. May he be home soon and the two of you be able to sing together at church. So glad that the doctors are addressing the medication factor. Take care and know that prayers are going up immediately for all of you. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteYour prayers are so important and meaningful, Debbie, as you join with so many others who love and care about Danny. I'd like to be able to sing with him sooner than later, but it could be several long months before the doctor gives his okay about that. Thanks so much for leaving such a thoughtful comment.

What a concerning time, Martha! I'm so thankful for his 'boys' swift actions and getting him to the right physicians. Lifting bold prayers right now for both of you!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your prayers, Myra. Yes, this has truly been a stressful time for all of us, but we know that God is looking over us and are trusting that He will see us through this present crisis. The boys have been such an amazing help!

We're praising the Lord along with you and the rest of your faithful tribe, Martha. What a joyful thing it is to get good news, especially after prayers for God's healing and sustaining grace. In the midst of a world full of bad news, it's wonderful to hear news that lets our hearts do their little "Snoopy dance of joy". We loved reading about your surprise in discovering that he was home and in bed, and Diane and I are glad that Danny's on the road to a full recovery and that you guys can enjoy the relief from another trying experience. And that, "Too Blessed to be Stressed" meme hits the spot for us today as well. God bless you for the update and another uplifting visit into your world.
ReplyDeleteWhen we stop and reflect, Ron, we all are too blessed to be stressed. Though it's going to be a long week for Danny being in the hospital, I'm so grateful that his sons are with him so I can attend to some responsibilities that have to happen this week at home. I'm not quite doing that Snoopy dance yet, but we are filled with much hope for a full recovery for Danny and that he's back home as soon as his doctors deem it safe.

Praise God for those two caring sons, the expertise and personal care of Danny's doctors, and the miracles of modern medication (when properly prescribed)! / Father, we ask that the side effects of Amiodarone quickly subside so Danny may go home sooner than expected, be relieved of the cough, and regain health once again. We look forward to Martha reporting, "Danny and I sang in church this week. and we couldn't stop smiling!" We pray in the power of Jesus' name, AMEN!
ReplyDeleteOh, Nancy, your prayer here brought tears to my eyes! I couldn't have said it better at all, but you've expressed all that is in my heart and mind as Danny is recovering. And I am so thankful for the gift of modern medicines, but as you said, they can have adverse effects on some people. I'm trusting in our Great Physician to restore Danny to health and wholeness.

Prayers for Danny and you and that everything turns out fine.
ReplyDeleteYour prayers are most appreciated, Bill. Thanks so much!

Thank you so much for this update on Danny. I am so glad he ended up in the right place with the right doctors and that they knew what to do. I am sorry the medicine has caused such a problem for him. Wow! Praying he will start to feel much better soon, and so happy that his sons came to see him...that was probably the BEST medicine ever! Praying for you as I know you are very concerned and not happy to be home alone. Praying God will give you comfort and encouragement for each new day. (((hugs))) We will keep praying.
ReplyDeleteYour thoughtful and heartfelt words here have done wonders to cheer me, and I know you are praying earnestly for Danny and for me. No, it's difficult to be home alone sometimes, but being in the hospital just won't work for me as I've learned from previous experiences. And you're so right about his sons being the best medicine - they are a balm and a tonic as they keep him company and give me updates on all that's going on. Piedmont downtown does have some fabulous cardio and pulmonary specialists, so Danny is truly in good hands.
