Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever. ~Hebrews 13:8
When it comes to weather, the month of March here in northwest Georgia is, in a word, unpredictable. We might enjoy several days of balmy temperatures and sunshine, lulling us into thinking that spring has arrived, only to be rudely awakened a day or two later to discover that winter refuses to surrender.
Here's the perfect illustration of this phenomenon. The forecast for this Wednesday promises a high of 80 degrees. Sounds delightful, right? By Thursday, the tables turn abruptly. Our high will only reach 56 degrees with an overnight low of 40. Spring may be the season we long for, yet Old Man Winter will portray her as a flirtatious and fickle lover as long as he can.
This seasonal clash, while making sure we keep our coats and sweaters at the ready, too often results in severe weather as warm and cold fronts collide, battling it out for supremacy. We already see evidence of this in the recent outbreak of deadly tornadoes that strike both Oklahoma and Michigan last Friday.
I'm ever so grateful that our county has severe storm sirens to warn us of any impending dangers. Weather apps on our phones don't hurt, either!
March is a roller coaster ride - highs, lows, twists, turns - continuous uncertainty and white-knuckled moments. It gives fresh credence to this saying attributed to Mark Twain: If you don't like today's weather, just wait five minutes.
We may be at the mercy of this month's tumultuous vagaries, but in the midst of it all, we can rest assured that Jesus is constant and immutable. He is the same yesterday and today and forever. And we can completely trust Him to be here with us at all times and in all places no matter the weather, foul or fair.
And that, my friends, is not just a prediction; it's the guaranteed Good News forever!
Amen!

The storm sirens are such a good thing. Do you have a good place to stay safe? Our weather has been the same.
ReplyDeleteYes, we do have a safe room downstairs, Ginny. In fact, we were there just last evening for a while as a precaution as a front was coming through. You stay safe, too!
DeleteBlessings!
I see our weather is predicated to change to something similar next week. No sirens here, sigh. Wishing you a beautiful day.
ReplyDeleteYou all have most certainly had a crazy winter in Florida, Linda, that's for sure. I'm sure you'll keep a close eye on it.
DeleteBlessings!
My daughter lives in Minnesota and they hear those sirens quite often in the summer. Those warnings remind me of the warnings the Bible gives us that Jesus is coming again and we need to be ready and watching. Pam Williams
ReplyDeleteYes, Pam, we should be prepared for Jesus' return each and every day. No siren will sound to give us that final warning, will it?
DeleteBlessings!
Wise words and a good reminder that we can rely on Jesus in all weathers and in all circumstances in our lives. Thank you Martha.
ReplyDeleteGod bless always.
We can always rely on Jesus, Victor, for all that we could ever need or want, in good times and in bad.

Yes March is unpredictable -stay safe! -Christine cmlk79.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteWe'll do our level best, Christine.

Here in Indiana the weather is predictably unpredictable. Just a few weeks ago we had 15" of snow and bitter cold. Today we are to hit the 70s but Sunday they are predicting an inch of snow. That's why I call them "weather guessers" not "weather forecasters." They don't know. however, as you have pointed out, there is one who NEVER CHANGES.
ReplyDeleteI think weather guessers is an apt description, Bill. With all the computer models and modern equipment, you'd think they could do a better job at predicting the weather. Indiana certainly has the same yo-yo of March changes as we do. Thank the Lord that He never changes.
DeleteBlessings!
I'm convinced that the old adage should be changed to "March comes in like a lamb and leaves like a lion."
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, Glynn. That's the way it seems every time March rolls around.
DeleteBlessings!
March is a month to watch. Stay safe, dear friend 🧡
ReplyDeleteWe certainly will do our best, Linda.
DeleteBlessings!
so true and "March is a roller coaster ride". so it life! Hang on, Jesus is at the controls!
ReplyDeleteYes, Jean, thank goodness that Jesus is the One who is in control. Lord, take the wheel!
DeleteBlessings!
I’m so thankful for God’s constant peace and presence. Thank you for the reminder, Martha.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you found this post comforting, Diana. Some days, we all need that simple, sweet reminder, don't we?
DeleteBlessings!
Wonderfully encouraging scenes, Martha. The years Diane and I spent in Alaska made us more grateful than ever for our time in Virginia and Tennessee. I love the feelings that accompany the differences and the varying things we get to do as they approach and as they fade away. As you made clear, the hand of our Father is active in all the seasons He sends our way. The Spirit of God is present to give us what we need to adapt to the difficulties that accompany each of them, and to remind us that there's beauty and opportunity in all the seasons we face, whether we're talking about climate or developmental progression of our lives and ministries.
ReplyDeleteAnother great job this week, my long distance friend and fellow soldier. May God bless you and Danny as this season gets underway, and may it be fruitful and joyful throughout.
Thanks so much for your words of encouragement, Ron. As you said, let us all be aware of the beauty and opportunity found in every season of our lives, trusting that our loving Father is our constant through it all. I'm so thankful that He never changes!
DeleteBlessings!
Thank you for that GOOD NEWS! Jesus Christ, the same, yesterday, today and forever! Amen! I noticed our high 80's are going to be changed next week too, with lows in the 40's and high's in the 60's again after hopefully some much needed rain! So yes, keep those sweaters handy!! And pray that there are no serious severe storms. It breaks my heart to see what some places go through every spring with the tornadoes, etc. The can and do happen in Florida sometimes too, but just not as often as in other parts of the country. Still, we have to be aware and prepared. Take care, and stay safe!
ReplyDeleteOh, Pamela, I do hope and pray that you will get that rain you so desperately need in your neck of the woods! I've never seen anything like it, especially in Florida. I hate that the weather in so many states can become destructive and threatening, too, especially in the spring. Just last evening, in fact, Danny and I spent some time in our "bunker" as he saw that we could be in for some high winds and rain. Thankfully, we were spared, and the worst of the storm passed us by. Praising the Lord for all His mercies!
DeleteBlessings!
Oh, indeed, spring is the most fickle season of them all! Unpredictable every day! So thankful that our Lord is steadfast and sure, and that we can count on Him no matter what the season may hold for us!!! Love your thoughts on this subject!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Marilyn, for stopping by today with your encouraging comment. I'm glad the subject spoke to your heart. The Lord is our steadfast rock who will never change. Thank goodness for that!
DeleteBlessings!
A very nice and even educational post about this month. Very well done. I also appreciate the scripture you opened with today. Thank you dear friend for your comments and your prayers. You are in mine. Aloha
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Cloudia, for your sweet comment here today. That's one of my favorite verses from scripture as it's THE guarantee of the Lord's eternal love and presence in our lives. No matter what may happen to change in this life, we can count on Him to be steadfast.
DeleteBlessings!
Thank God, God is always the same. He is NOT like the weather.
ReplyDeleteYou are right - "If you don't like today's weather, just wait five minutes."
I just put my winter clothes away - but that's okay. It will be HOT soon and stay that way.
Hope you are doing well.
You're so right, Sandie, that the weather will be hot before we know it here in Georgia. Let's enjoy those cooler temps while we can and not wish it away. You're braver than I am as my sweaters and coats are still accessible. I usually don't retire them until April.
DeleteBlessings!
While I was born in "tornado alley" and lived in that area of the USA 3 different times, I have been blessed to NOT experience a tornado. Your description of how tornadoes form was interesting and accurate.
ReplyDeleteTornado alley??? Oh, Barbara, that would give me the heebie-jeebies! I've had a dreaded fear of tornadoes since my mother let me watch The Wizard of Oz when I was only three. My angst has gotten better as I've gotten older, and I give God the credit for calming my heart and soul during storms, knowing that I'm ever safe in His hands.

Amen!!!
ReplyDeleteI totally agree, Terri!

The weather can be a right bitch at times, so we have to all take care and when the weather is horrible ask God to help us find the strength to deal with it
ReplyDeleteIt's not just the weather, Jo-Anne, but every aspect of our lives can prove difficult and trying at times. I'm so thankful for our loving Father who is always with us and faithful in all things.
DeleteBlessings!
We too can experience extreme weather fluctuations here in the Ohio River Valley, as much as 30 degrees from early morning til late afternoon. I find the variety rather fun! Praise God HE is not as mercurial as the weather. We can count on him to ALWAYS be what he's promised to be--Hallelujah!
ReplyDeleteHallelujah, indeed, Nancy! I'm beginning to realize with all the comments here that we're not alone in the fluctuations that March brings in our weather patterns. So unsettling! In Georgia, we tend to get those extreme temperature differentials in the winter months. Thanks be to God that He is the constant through it all!
DeleteBlessings!
As you know, our weather patterns are similar to yours. Years ago, my son reflected, living in Alabama is not for sissies. Thankfully, the good outweighs the bad. Meanwhile, we prepare as best we can ... and pray!
ReplyDeletePrepare for the best you can, and pray. I love this declaration, Myra! That's exactly what it takes to live not just in the South, but anywhere if we stop to think about it. Please stay safe in this treacherous season of storms, my friend.
DeleteBlessings!
Grateful Marthda that our weather is lovely please temperature, and mercifully no wild storm or cyclone this far south. The thing we can struggle with is bushfire and drought. One glorious day the LORD will make the crooked things straight. Amen even so come LORD Jesus.
ReplyDeletePrayer hugs, Shaz in Oz.x
Yes, Shaz, the Lord will make straight all the crooked paths in His good time. Glad to know you don't have to endure such storms as I've described here, but drought and/or bushfires don't sound like a whole lot of fun, either.

Amen Ms. Martha Jane! Amen! Knowing how the spring weather can change suddenly, I think of how the storms in our lives can suddenly move us from a "comfortable life" to one that is anything but "comfortable". It is in those moments that our faith is tested. It is in those stormy moments of life that we seek to anchor ourselves with our faith in Christ. Oh, how He can hold us fast to His promises. God's blessings, precious sister.
ReplyDeleteIt is precisely in those moments of sudden change when our faith is tested, J. D. None of us wish to be put in such a dilemma, but with the Lord's help, we can make it through the most difficult of times and come out all the stronger for it. God does keep His promises, always!
DeleteBlessings!
Martha, our March weather is just as unpredictable in East TN. Our highs today are low 80"s and tomorrow 50"s. And next week cold temps are forecast for the highs with lows in the 30's and 20's. Oh my! I'm thankful our Lord is immovable and constant. Praise His holy name. A wonderful and inspirational post. God bless.
ReplyDeleteI hear you about the crazy temperature swings, Karen. Yes, just as wild in East TN as it is here! In these times of uncertainty and change, I'm thankful as you are that our Lord is constant and cannot be moved. I need that anchor and promise!
DeleteBlessings!
Through all things, Christ has sustained us no matter the situation.
ReplyDeleteSpring and all seasons for that matter are fickle. They will come to be but the how and why is never a given. We enjoy each day for what it is and not what it could be. They are all a blessing.
Hugs and Blessings
You are absolutely right, Jim, that Christ has and will sustain us in all situations when we put our trust in Him. May we all take your advice and enjoy each day He gives us for what it is in that moment.

Such an elegantly poetic comment you have taken time to leave here today, A.P.! Your words have most certainly blessed my heart with a song. Thanks for coming by!

Good news indeed! God knows what is needed and will take care of it. Amen for that!
ReplyDeleteGod certainly will take care of His children, Bill. I second your amen!

We're riding that same roller coaster ride in our weather too, Martha. It's already 78 degrees at my house today, yet tomorrow's low will be 33. Riding the waves! :)
ReplyDeleteYep, we're in the same boat with you being in Alabama, Lisa. Crazy ups and downs! Today, it's windy and cold while yesterday was balmy. I guess we just have to go with the flow, don't we?
DeleteBlessings!
March winds are forceful today in NC. Today's temperature hit 90.Tomorrow night's low, around 30. Roller coaster ride indeed.
ReplyDeleteJesus, the only constant in life. Amen.
Jesus is absolutely the absolute, Debra! Living in the South in the spring is always a wild ride, isn't it? Sounds like you are experiencing the same crazy temps as we are.
DeleteBlessings!
We sure need the Good news! We are forecast to have rain today and snow tonight!!
ReplyDeleteRain and snow? Sounds like the result could be ice in the morning, Annie. Yes, we all need the Good News that God offers each and every day.

Bom dia, Martha
ReplyDeleteNa vida passamos por altos e baixos. Que Jesus proteja vocês das turbulências deste mês. Ele nos ajuda em todo o tempo. Um forte abraço.
We certainly all have our ups and downs in life, Lucinalva. I'm so grateful that Jesus is here to be with us and help us no matter what.

You are so right about the weather Martha! Three days ago we had no snow. As I read this we’re in a blizzard with 10-16 inches of snow because we all dream of a white St Patrick’s Day right! Thanking Jesus he never changes! B Blessed!
ReplyDeleteThe weather is nuts where you live, Mike, just a different kind of extreme in March. I just saw the midwest's forecast earlier today. Yes, I'm so glad that Jesus remains the same always.
DeleteBlessings!
I love how you’ve tied the unpredictability of the weather to the certainty we have in Christ.
ReplyDeleteWhat a comfort to know that while seasons shift and storms may come, His presence and promises never change.
Thank you for this beautiful reminder, Martha.
Blessings!
Thank you, Veronica, for your kind and thoughtful words here. Yes, when the seasons are in turmoil, we can rest in the knowledge that our God never changes. That's such a comfort.

Martha Jane: I am still here in this world. Hubby prefers I not be in the computer room due to the low temps that seem to come to that room. He also is not doing well and prefers I not make any noise while he fights the losing battle of getting some sleep. In January, I fell twice. As a result, I am on a walker; I ordered one with wheels on Sunday, I ordered tennis balls for the back legs this afternoon. It feels good to be able to read your blog, again, Be blessed.
ReplyDeleteOh, how sad it makes me that both you and your husband are struggling so much at this stage in your lives. Falling is so dangerous as we age, especially as women, and I'm glad you have a walker to use as an aid for mobility. If my blog offers you any kind of comfort and peace at this time, I am humbled beyond words.
DeleteIs Anonymous Cecelia? Please let me know, sweet friend!
DeleteWe have had the same situations here. Crazy weather, for sure. God help us all and keep us all safe, in Jesus' precious name.
ReplyDeleteAmen and amen again, Cheryl!

Going from 80 degrees to 40 in just one day is actually such a roller coaster and I would totally be confused about what to wear. verse from Hebrews is the perfect way to feel grounded when everything else feels so unpredictable and moody.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely, Melody! There's infinite truth in the Bible that is designed to see us through all the infirmities and troubles life wants to give us, but we know that God will overcome all in the end.
