Magic and Memorable Moments

Proverbs 17:6
Children's children are a crown to the aged, and parents are the pride of their children.

This past weekend, we enjoy having our oldest granddaughter, Virginia Rose, stay with us.  She is so excited when I tell her we will attend a special event, Museum Magic, at the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History, which is located right here in Kennesaw.  We are truly blessed to have this marvelous asset, home to the famous General, right in our backyard!

So what is Museum Magic?  Children of all ages are invited to travel to different stations throughout the venue, and create all kinds of Halloween-themed crafts.  Our first stop is goody bag making.

Little Miss I'm-in-a-Hurry draws her jack o' lantern eyes on the bottom of her bag.  We share a laugh over that!

After Virginia tries her hand at writing with a quill pen,

it's on to wand making!

It's amazing what a few ribbons and glitter can do!

We wander through the museum until we arrive at the classroom area.  Here, volunteers are helping children to make magic potions -

and Virginia's favorite - slime!

She couldn't wait to play with it when we got home!

We drop into the theater briefly to watch a bit of Monsters, Inc., then it's off to candle making.  Virginia is fascinated.

And here's her final product -

Don't think we can burn this twisty thing!

And of course, our tour wouldn't be complete without a trip to the gift shop.  There are so many unique items to attract the eyes of both children and adults.  Virginia zones in on a colorful display of "gems."

When I see that a full bag of these is only $5.99, I tell Virginia go for it.  She is absolutely thrilled!  Here are the treasures she chooses:

I still can't believe she crammed this many "gems" into this tiny bag!

Yes, our trip to the museum is both memorable and magical.  An experience, I'm sure, our Princess "Elsa" will remember for a long, long time.

Amen!

  1. Isn't grandparenting just the absolute, most exhausting, exhilarating best, Martha?

And slime, huh? I'm going to have to remember that. It would be a HUGE hit with my clan.

    What a fun post!

    1. Absolutely, Linda, there's nothing better than being a grandparent, even when they wear you out. :) Yes, the slime was Virginia's favorite - I'm sure there is a recipe on line for how to make it.
      Glad you enjoyed the post!

  2. I love that you are able to enjoy your beautiful grandchildren in such creative and fun ways! This looked like an absolutely marvelous day, one that Virginia will remember for a long time...and she'll have that beautiful bag of stones to treasure! Love this in every way. Thank you for sharing it with us. Makes me wish I had a little granddaughter to do things with. I may have to adopt one! :)

  8. What an amazing post, Martha! Making memories like this is important for everyone. By the way, I remember making candles in sixth grade (for pioneer days, I think).

    1. That's so cool you recall making candles, Kim. It's something I never did, so I was just as fascinated as Virginia in watching the process. Yes, great memories!

  9. What fun for kids! And for grandparents, too! :) One of our granddaughters brought some slime here on Sunday to show us. She said she made it out of contact lenses' liquid and glue. It's kind of relaxing to stretch it, catch, and roll. :) Love and hugs to you, Martha!

    1. Oh, so that's the recipe? I'd love to help Virginia make more of it the next time she's over here as she loved it so much. And yes, Trudy, it was a blast! Our museum often hosts great activities for children/parents/grandparents. Lots of fun and always educational.

  10. WE share a house with our son and family so we get to first hand on a daily bases interact with our three grandchildren from our son. The very thing about our day is them coming in to show us what they did at school and always coming in for a nightly hug before bedtime. We have living together for three years now and have settled into a routine that helps the parents and bring us great joy.

    1. Oh, Betty, your living arrangement sounds heavenly! If we had a larger house, and I do mean larger, I'd love to be able to do the same. But as they live only 16 miles away, it's no hardship to travel and spend time with all three grands.

  12. She's a doll!!! That is the best! What a gift from God to be able to spend time with our family, especially the little ones that came from our once little ones.

This puts a smile on my face and in my heart. I know it does you too!

    1. Thank you, Floyd! Yes, I think Virginia is a doll, too, but then again, I'm the Gammie and I'm certainly prejudiced in this matter.
So glad her photos made you smile. We all need more of those, don't we?
