Sweet Tooth!

Psalm 119:103
How sweet are your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth!

In her most recent visit with us, granddaughter, Virginia Rose, decides to don her Amazing Chef apron once again so we can make frozen chocolate-banana pops.  Yes, we've made these before, and Virginia, who asks me which one of her teeth is the "sweet" one, savors this treat, which is both healthy and indulgent at the same time.

She peruses the recipe card and retrieves the utensils we need.

I get out the chocolate chips and olive oil for the gooey coating.

Virginia peels and slices the bananas, and inserts each with a popsicle stick.

We then pop these babies into the freezer for thirty minutes.  About five minutes before they're due to reappear, we get busy with the chocolate mixture.  Virginia measures the chips, not without sampling a few!

Adds the tablespoon of olive oil,

and it's ready to go into the microwave for easy melting.  Once done, Virginia stirs the mixture until smooth, and dips each banana carefully, coating them as best she can.

And it's back into the freezer again to solidify the chocolate.  And though she has to wait two hours for that to happen, Virginia is rewarded for her efforts and patience.

Sweeter than honey?  You bet!

But even sweeter is the Word of God.  One day, Virginia will grasp that eternal truth and, I pray, will choose to live by God's "sweeter than honey" commandments.

May we all do the same.

Amen!

  1. Now that is clever. I had never thought of conbining banana with chocolate. We shall have to try that. Does the olive oil affect the taste of chocolate? What if I were to add unsalted butter instead? Thank you for this wonderful and tasty post, Martha.

    God bless you all.

    1. Sorry ... more questions.

Does the frozen banana solidify solid? Do you eat it straight from the freezer - i.e. a rock-hard solid banana stick covered in chocolate?

      God bless.

    2. Those are great questions, Victor. Do you want me to send you the recipe via email? Let me know.
Yes, one does eat the banana frozen and it tastes remarkably good - just like ice cream, believe it or not. You probably could use unsalted butter, but no guarantees from this party. The olive oil doesn't affect the taste of the chocolate at all.

    3. Yes please. I am intrigued by frozen bananas. I wonder if I could also try other fruits like pineapples. Or other freezable fruits that go well with chocolate.

      God bless.

    4. I will type it up today or tomorrow and send it off to you. You know, I think pineapple just might work . . . Tasty!

    5. Many thanx for the recipe received today. I'll let you know how it works out with pineapples when we try it.

      Many thanx. God bless.

  2. Only one mistake in that whole process? Okay two. Not enough chocolate (gotta coat the whole banana) and two, I'm not there to eat the chocolate (I can't eat bananas). What a beautiful lesson Martha.

    1. Lol, Bill, and thank you! I think you and Virginia have a lot in common when it comes to chocolate. She always wants to eat that first, and has to be coaxed into finishing her banana.

  4. Such wonderful moment with your little granddaughter! I have made these with my grandson as well -- but you must coat the whole banana! Great analogy, Martha

    1. I know we should have coated the entire banana, Carol, but I was trying to let Virginia figure it out on her own. Still, they sure did taste good and the time spent together was priceless, as always.

  5. Oh Martha, what a sweet post (pun intended)! While some of us have a sweet tooth, the best sweetness comes from the Word of God and having a relationship with our Heavenly Father through Jesus our Savior.

  6. Can't go wrong with those. I love to roll mine in crushed nuts before I freeze them.

    1. Rolling in nuts, coconut or sprinkles were some of the suggestion made in the recipe. We decided to go plain. And yes, they are delicious!

  7. What a tasty idea, Martha! So the bananas never turn color in the freezer? How long can they be frozen? Virginia is turning into quite the little chef. :) Love and hugs to you!

    1. No, Trudy, the bananas stay amazingly fresh. As for how long they can stay in the freezer, I'm not sure as they've never hung around more than two days before they're consumed. Lol!

And thanks for your compliment of Virginia. I have to admit, I think she's mighty cute, too.

  14. She is adorable!!! What a gift to be able to spend time with your granddaughter and pass along the Words of wisdom appointed unto you. There is no greater ministry...

    1. Floyd, you hit the nail on the head - there is no greater ministry than what grandparents can extend to their grandchildren. That's not to in any way negate the role of the parent, but I know how much positive influence my parents had on my kids as they were growing up, and I'm determined, with God's help, to do the same.
Yes, Virginia does have the adorable thing going on, but more importantly, her heart is so full of love and joy, she brightens up all that she touches. God has blessed her, that's for sure!
