I'm weary of the words
Used against my thoughts
I'm tired of being told
Who I am by those
Who have no idea
What God's love created
When He made me
Unique, one of a kind
You who label me
As clueless, racist, hater
Deign not to understand
Dialogue not an option?
Would you reconsider?
Will you know this truth?
You are God's child, too
And in His grace and love
Enduring peace is yours
Yet question resonates:
Will you converse with me?
Amen
Thank you for sharing this morning...
ReplyDeleteI can feel the emotion in the words you have written.
The overwhelming desire to simply converse and to share God's love.
Amen, Ryan, you got it! Simply want to be able to share God's love with those who so need to hear it.

One word: Brilliant.

WOW! Such a deep and timely post, Martha (with all that's happening in our world and country).
ReplyDeleteI love when you share poetry. You are so gifted.
Beckie, I'm generally nervous about sharing any poetry, but I'm so glad this touched your heart. Means so much to me! Yes, it is a reflection on the division in our country; can't we just talk in a civilized manner?

So perfect in every way. We are all struggling with this lack of dialogue among thoughtful adults. We each are entitled to our own opinions and feelings about things, but it seems as though others feel that we are less than human if we dare to disagree with them...It is very frustrating. Praying for our nation to turn back to God.
ReplyDeletePraying for that right along with you, Pamela! What has happened to mature dialogue between adults? The name-calling, closed mind and heart approach does no one any good whatsoever. And the worst aspect is seeing Christians go at one another with fangs bared. The devil is having a hay day, and that needs to stop.

Martha, I think you and I are a perfect example of what you are asking in your poem. You and I see some things very differently. We are in many ways unlikely friends in blog world or otherwise. I often use you as an example, when talking with others, of how two people who are on opposite sides of some pretty important issues, can reach across what is to some folks an uncrossable divide and see the beauty in each other's soul. You and I are the people who can model for others how beliefs and opinions do not need to be barriers to kindness and friendship. I value all my friends, but I value friendships like ours in a special way because in today's world, such a friendship is so rare.
ReplyDeleteOh, Galen, your words here moved me to tears . . . We are unlikely friends, but friends, we are, and I treasure our relationship so deeply. Yes, we may be an anomaly in this world so fraught with anger and division, but I think we both recognize that ours is a divine gift to be valued and nurtured. I'm so touched that you have used the example of our friendship as a beacon to others that yes, we can choose to get along and to love one another in spite of superficial differences.

Beautiful! You are quite the poet, My Friend!

Lovely, dear Martha. I love conversations with you, and wish for more. Sending love and bluebirds your way.
ReplyDeleteOh, yes, bluebirds of happiness, Debra . . . Thank you!

I'm late to this party Martha but i agree with Ryan: you can feel the emotions in this poem. I, too, want people to talk to me not at me. I want them to pay attention to my words and feelings and not just "blow off" what they think. I want people to talk to me.
ReplyDeleteLate to the party or not, Bill, you are always welcome. :)
DeleteYes, there is way too much talking AT people instead of talking WITH them. How I long for civil discourse . . .
Love and blessings!
Oh wow, Martha! This is a deep poem--one that is full of emotion. It reflects your kind heart in this deeply hurting and divisive world.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your gift with us!

Thanks so much for your kind words here, Kim! They mean the world to me.

SO true, sweet friend. You just keep holding the truth, in spite of those who misunderstand and disagree. You bless so many of us here!
ReplyDeleteOh, Cheryl, your kind words here are much appreciated! Yes, may we all hold onto the truth we know in Jesus.
DeleteLove and blessings!
Amen!!!
ReplyDeleteI second that, Jean!
