Wings Like Eagles (or Maybe Hawks?)

The photo featured above is taken from our dining room window; Danny has a perfect view of it from his computer desk chair.  We are conversing away one afternoon when, out of the corner of my eye, I catch something BIG winging its way over our deck.  Hoping beyond hope that it has landed nearby, I lean cautiously toward this same window.

Hallelujah!  It's a hawk!

"Go get my camera," Danny whispers, as if the hawk can hear him.  I hasten to the bedroom to fetch it, praying all the while that this majestic bird will still be there upon my return.

Prayers are answered!

And Danny's photos are so stunning, I'm compelled to share them with you.  I've accompanied them with scripture that I pray invites you to meditate upon God's Word and revel in the marvels of His creation.

I long to dwell in your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of your wings. ~Psalm 61:4

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. ~Isaiah 40:30-31

Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are you not much more valuable than they? ~Matthew 6:26

Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, and you were not willing. ~Matthew 23:37

You yourselves have seen what I did to Egypt, and how I carried you on eagles' wings and brought you to myself. ~Exodus 19:4

We are so blessed by our recent visit by this hawk.  I hope you, too, are keeping your hearts, minds and souls open to God's wonders in all of His works.

Amen!

  4. Wonderful pictures. It was so nice of Mr. Hawk to sit still long enough for you to catch some good photos. I love the one of him flying too. We have a resident hawk here in our back yard/pond. I hear him calling all times of the day. Occasionally I can get a good picture of him, but he usually moves too quickly. You were blessed to see him when you did. Enjoy God's beauty around you. We are blessed to have front row seats to God's creation if we just open our eyes and behold!!

    1. Yes, it was so courteous of Mr. Hawk to sit for a photo shoot, Pamela, I agree! They can be so hard to capture on the camera, so we feel especially blessed by this opportunity we had. Glad you have hawks where you are now living, too. Hang in there, and maybe you will get a great shot with your camera!

  5. When you wrote, "Hallelujah! A hawk!" I smiled wide. Just what I would feel. I also identify with quickly getting my camera. I always keep it on my desk. :) My husband saw a hawk in our evergreen a while back and called me, but by the time I got there with my camera, he was gone. :( Sometimes I tell myself to enjoy the moment and treasure it in my heart instead of rushing for the camera. :) Thank you for sharing these photos, Martha. Tell Danny his excellent photos refreshed my heart. As did the verses you shared with them. They bring comfort to my heart. Love and blessings to you!

    1. Trudy, thanks so much for sharing your almost close encounter with the hawk and camera. Yes, we do need to always be reminded to simply relish the present, the moment in which we find ourselves. Danny and I felt truly blessed that the images could be captured at all. So pleased to know the photos and verses gave comfort to you heart, my friend!

  8. Excellent photos. You are fortunate to live so close to nature like that. I have made it a habit to carry my camera in my purse wherever I go because I have, in the past, seen some wonderful potential shots when my camera was at home. I try not to make that mistake any more.

    1. Wise move to always tote your camera with you, Diane, for we never know when God will reveal something we can only capture in the moment. Yes, I never run out of gratitude for where we live, and I pray that we will ever be healthy enough to remain in this two-story home.
