Birthday Girl!

From birth I have relied on you; you brought me forth from my mother's womb.  I will ever praise you. ~Psalm 41:6

While granddaughters Virginia and Alexandra have birthdays two days and five years apart in July, Savannah stands on her own with an April 27th celebration.  We can't be there, of course, to share in Savannah's special day, but daughter, Sarah, sends some sweet photos of the birthday girl opening her gifts.

The collection of stuffed unicorns we send are a huge hit!  I'm sure you all recall that Savannah is enamored by these mythical creatures.

We also send Savannah a musical jewelry box, something she asks for, and she is delighted with it, and the little ballerina that spins around inside.

The third gift we send to Savannah, knowing she's a budding writer, is a diary.

You can't see the front, but rest assured it is adorned with a unicorn.  What else?

I don't know who gave her this make-up kit for little girls, but I'll bet dollars to donuts it's from daddy John's parents.

Oh, what a mess this is sure to make, but the fun will far outweigh that.  Savannah's sisters will enjoy playing with it, too.

I still have to pinch myself when I realize our little Savannah has turned seven.  It just doesn't seem possible!  I'm sure I stand with many grandparents reading this who are astonished by how fast time flies when it comes to the grands growing up.

But no matter where they are in their life stages, our grandchildren can always be taught how much God loves them, how they can rely on Him for all their needs, and daily give Him thanks and praise.

Amen!

  9. Savannah is such a lovely young 7-year-old lady. They do indeed grow up way too fast. It looks like she had a very fun birthday and I can picture her writing in her unicorn diary, surrounded by all the stuffed unicorns! Such a fun age. 10. Sweet angels...God surely knows how to bless us when it comes to our littles. Grandparents know that we have to grab every moment and cherish them. Those moments are fleeting. Blessing to you and your littles.

    1. Those moments are all too fleeting, Nells, as we both know so well. They are sweet angels to us, and always will be. Let us cherish each and every moment we have with them, even when it's from a distance.

  11. Oh, Happy Birthday Savannah! I hope I'm not too late! I do hope she had a wonderful birthday! It certainly looks like it! Do you know that I still have my little jewelry box with a ballerina in it? However, the ballerina broke off of her little perch and I can't seem to fix it. I still have her in the box, however. I don't remember how old I was when I got that box, but I was quite young I am sure. Oh, and a diary! I wonder if she walk in her grandmother's footsteps and become a famous writer someday? I hope she will start with a journal of the story of her birthday! That would be a great place to start! Thank you for sharing this with us. She is so precious, as are all three of your sweet grand-girls. YOu are truly blessed (as are they to have YOU!)

    1. Thanks so much, Pamela, for your kind words here about Savannah and her gifts. I think it is awesome that you've hung onto that jewelry box for so many years, even if the ballerina is no longer on her perch. You still saved her! I do hope that Savannah will take to writing like a duck takes to water. We never know fully the gifts God will lavish on our grands, but we can hope and pray.

  14. I'm with you Martha about "where did the time go?" when I think about our grandson being 14 and on the cusp of young manhood. I'm glad you were able to see them just a week or so ago and able to make her day special even though you weren't there (in person).
