Full of Promise

The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness.  Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Her long locks

Unfettered, wind-swept

With every move she makes

Full of promise, dreams

Not yet realized

Yet, in time, fruition

Will live to tell the tale

Of longing locks, leaning

Into past and future

Moments in the now

Will fall with full abandon

When God gives her

The keys to the kingdom

Pledged from time's beginning

Good until time's end.

Amen.

  2. Oh my, Martha! That is so beautiful. I hope you will share that poem with Virginia someday. What a treasure! Do you keep a little book of your poems? I hope you do so they can be given to your grandchildren someday. You are very gifted in poetry. That is something I've never been very good at, but I appreciate others who have that gift. Have a blessed and beautiful day.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind and generous words here, Pamela. Yes, I do keep copies of all the poems I write; recently, I came across some very old ones when sorting through things at Mom's house. One day, I will share them with the grand-girls.

  4. Praying for your sweet granddaughter this morning. I think of all the discoveries yet to be made, all the "growing" she'll go through as she enters womanhood, and all the sacrifices she'll have to make in her adult life for family and children. Then, I thank God that she'll have a loving, supportive grandmother like you to help guide her through the life changes ahead. I end my prayers with a smile; knowing that she is loved, protected, and cared for long into the future -- in God's care.

  12. Interesting that you would share this verse with us: The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead, he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

I have been praying this for a personal reason for some months.

Beautiful post and poem about your granddaughter.

  14. To watch her grow through your eyes has been a pleasure Martha. And such long hair. ("I'm not jealous at all). Thanks for sharing your dream for her with us.

  15. I love the pictures, Martha--both of them. The beautiful shot of her in the woods and the one you painted with your words. I especially love the pledge you wrapped up with. It encapsulates all the joy ahead and promises deliverance from all the pain. Thank you for bringing your world into ours and reminding us of our own role with our grandchildren. May God help us to leave jewels of wisdom behind for them like the one you shared today.
