Easter Treasures

You make known to me the path of life; you fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand. ~Psalm 16:11

(Some of the photos in this post are somewhat blurry, and I apologize for that.  I've included them to, hopefully, communicate the enthusiasm of the grand-girls.)

Easter Day has come and gone, but not the liturgical season, which lasts for 50 days in the church year.  We should all be filled with joy at God's presence in the risen Christs throughout these weeks and beyond.  So, let's return to the family's recent visit with us, when we give the girls their Easter basket gifts and send them on an egg hunt in our back yard.  Look at the delight on their faces as they dig into their treasures!

In the first photo above, Virginia is preparing to hide Easter eggs for her sisters.  She sticks to right side of our back yard.

Her own eggs will be hidden by Danny (Papa) on the far side of the house, making them more difficult to find.  Unfortunately, I don't have any photos of her actual hunt.  I thought Papa would be capturing them!

Back upstairs, Savannah and Alexandra open the eggs they've collected with great gusto.  How much money did we make?

Amazingly, Savannah and Alexandra collect 12 eggs a piece, which is the ideal.  Poor Virginia couldn't find one of her eggs, and Papa couldn't recall where he hid it.  With the help of the rest of the family, the egg is finally recovered after lots of poking around in the leaves.  It made me glad that we chose to fill the eggs with coins, not candy!  I could just envision some adventurous squirrel gnawing through the plastic to unveil a chocolate surprise!

We are so happy, too, that we could give our grands a beautiful Easter experience to remind them of the joy that Jesus has brought into the world.

Amen!

  1. What a wonderful set of photos capturing memories which you and your family will always treasure. Oh to be young again ... and to remember the fun and love we had at Christmas, Easter and other occasions.

This is all testament to what good grand-parents you and Danny are. Building the foundations based on love for your whole family.

    God bless you all.

  2. Great photos Martha. I love seeing the smiles of innocence on faces of children. However, I do believe Papa ought to double what was in Virginia's egg since he made it so hard for her. LOL Thanks again for sharing your joy.

    1. We did give her some extra coins, Bill, before the last egg was recovered. If I remember correctly, her money haul was over $16 - not shabby!

  3. They're growing up so fast! (But like my own growing-up-too-fast grandchildren, they still like their Easter baskets!)

  4. Oh, how they are growing up, yet they are still children aren't they? I often wish we could all be in God's eyes. To view Him with the wonder, excitement, and sense of adventure that children exhibit in this life.

  10. Our grands (ages 6 and 10) hunted down their eggs and goodies with similar gusto! I love creating memories with them that we can enjoy in a game of "Remember When." (The six-year-old already talks about the olden days when she was in pre-K!) But I also know from experience that delightful memories of childhood will offer them moments of joy and gratitude for decades to come. I feel honored to play a part.

    1. All of us grandparents should feel honored every time we can make an impact of the lives and memories of our grandchildren, Nancy. And I do love the name of your game, "Remember When." That's perfect to help young ones jog their memories. It's also so sweet that your six-year-old talks about the "olden days." If they only knew!

  16. thecontemplativecat Here. Egg hunts with our children was always fun. Our gr-kids we took them to their grandma's house where there was a giant egg hunt at their Club House (retirement). Fun times. I posted a re-cap of a post-egg hunt from my own childhood. Go back to older posts.
