Alexandra displaying the war paint from her birthday cake last July
Pray without ceasing. 1 Thessalonians 5:17
Our youngest granddaughter, Alexandra, is what my mother would have called a "pepper tail." She is ever spunky, and full of good-humored mischief and daring-do. No challenge is deemed beyond her capability as she always tries to compete with her two older sisters, Virginia and Savannah, in high-spirited fashion. Alexandra, with her unruly brown hair, so NOT blonde like her sisters, and a penchant for adventure, never lets anything get her down.
Until now.
She is facing surgery to remove her tonsils and adenoids this coming Friday. Her parents, John and Sarah, know this procedure is inevitable after trips to the doctors and rounds of antibiotics fail to move the needle. No one wants Alexandra to continue to suffer, but at the tender age of nine, she is daunted by the unknown, not able to fully understand that the surgery she will undergo will alleviate the awful throat and ear pain with which she's been afflicted.
And no child wants to be sick at Christmas.
We will have a FaceTime this week with Sarah and the girls, especially Alexandra. Her Papa wants her to know that when he was little, he had to have the same procedure done as did her Uncle Giovanni. He hopes this will reassure her, and give her comfort, that everything being done is for her own good health and happier days in the future.
Sounds a lot like what our loving Father in heaven wants for all of us, doesn't it?
I know this is a crazy, busy time of the year, but could you all add Alexandra to your prayer lists at home and at church? Your prayers are so needed at this critical juncture in her young life. And I thank each and every one of you for caring enough to do so.
My heart's desire is to see Alexandra's vim and vigor restored fully before Santa comes down the chimney. With your prayers, and God's presence, I have every confidence that the Lord will come through for her and the entire family.
May God bless you in this season of Advent and beyond!
Amen!
Lord hear our prayer 🙏🏽
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cloudia.

I will add her to my prayer list Martha. Christmas break seems to be a "set" time for this to be done. We had several procedures done last year at this time. UGH!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Bill. This is happening a bit earlier than Christmas break, but with that said, I'm hoping Alexandra will be well on her way to recovery by then.

Praying for Alexandra and your whole family right now. Trust in God.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you all.
Thank you, Victor, we will trust in God always.

I'll be praying for her. (And our third grandson is also a pepper tail, much like his father, our firstborn.)
ReplyDeleteI hear you about your grandson, Glynn, and I can just imagine it. :) Thanks so much for the prayers.

You are so right. In the life of a nine year old, surgery at this time is unfathomable. I don’t know how long the recovery is for this surgery but I do pray it will be swift and complete. I pray, that she will trust her Heavenly Father and that the Holy Spirit will renew her spirit of adventure. God bless
ReplyDeleteI am praying for that, too, Debby. May her recovery be quick and complete!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your kind words of encouragement, Vickie, and for your prayers. Glad it made all the difference for you going forward.

Boa tarde de terça-feira, com muita paz e saúde. Minha querida amiga e irmã Martha, quanto tempo não teclamos. Oremos ao Senhor, pela recuperação total da sua neta. Deus está no controle. Deus abençoe a todos da sua família.

My son Jason has his tonsils out and I was sitting with at the hospital waiting for the procedure. After several visits from the doctor and nurses I tried to say something to comfort him. I asked him if he was ready and how he felt - he said he was fine except all the Nurses coming in telling him it would be fine he was getting scared. He made it through fine and after eating some ice cream he was fine and no more sore throat.
ReplyDeleteHooray for Jason! This story certainly is an encouraging one for all of us. Thank you!

Tonsils. Oh yes. My sister had them out when she was 2 years old and I was 4. They gave me the option of having mine out at the time, but of course I said no. Sister's case was more serious than mine, so I avoided it at the time. However, many years later, at the age of 18, I had to have them removed. It is harder to recover the older one is, but once that was behind me, I was (and have continued to be) so much healthier. Your granddaughter probably would not be encouraged by my story, so I share it to encourage the adults in her life. It is true, too, that the younger patients tend to bounce back quickly, so there's that. I am praying for Alexandra.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for sharing your own personal experience with us here today, Barbara. I will definitely pass this info on to Alexandra's parents. We will be talking to Sarah and the girls tomorrow via FaceTime, and your testimony will definitely help.

Martha, you can count on us to be praying fervently over Alexandra's surgery and complete recovery to come quickly. I love praying Psalm 91 in times like this. Praying the Lord will hide her in the shelter of His wing and give His angels charge concerning her. God bless. Love & hugs.
ReplyDeleteOh, Karen, we will most certainly pray Psalm 91 with you as we ask our Lord to assuage Alexandra's fears. Thank you, dear friend, for all your prayers in the days to come as we pray for you and your family, too.

Of course I will be praying for your sweet girl!! I had mine out when I was three years old!! It is one of my earliest memories (being in the hospital). She will be fine, covered by so many prayers!! Do please keep us posted!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your prayers, Terri, and I will keep everybody posted on her progress.

Oh no, keeping in prayer. Please keep us updated when you can.

Thank you for sharing this situation with your extended spiritual family, Martha. I can relate to Alexandra's anxieties even though my experience with the procedure was more decades ago than I care to recount. It reminds us of the truth of that old adage that "routine" surgical procedures are those being performed on somebody else. It certainly isn't something a child wants to include in his or her plans for fun Christmas activities. Diane and I are joining the rest of your family and your fans and asking our loving Lord to make this extension of His healing ministry as brief and painless as possible. Along with all of you, we're trusting that the surgery will eliminate the sore throats and ear aches once and for all.
ReplyDeleteAnd in spite of the unexpected disturbance of your usual holiday plans, may the presence of the One who came to redeem us from all of life's miseries grant joy and peace that defies anxiety, dispels Alexandra's fears, and reinforces the faith and love that binds all of you together.
Amen, Ron! Thank you so much for yours and Diane's prayers at this time and for sharing the memories of your own experience long ago. Medically, things are much more streamlined than they were "back in the day," and I'm sure Alexandra will be fine with God's help, comfort, peace, and all the prayers lifted for her.
