Kittie Cat Christmas

For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. ~Romans 8:22

Rocky and Riley are the two fortunate kitties that my daughter, Sarah, and her husband, John, adopt after they lose their beloved Henry in January of this year.  They hope that these new additions will help their girls, especially Virginia, who thought of Henry as her best friend, begin to heal the gaping holes Henry's passing leaves in their hearts.

Their strategy works!  Whenever we FaceTime, we can count on one of the girls carrying the nearest cat to the phone so we can see them, too.  They have become fast friends with these sweet pets.

After Thanksgiving, Sarah and John decide to set up their Christmas tree.  This is the first Christmas for the young kitties.  While no one thinks they will anything more than curl up under it, just as Henry used to, they are in for an unexpected surprise.

Riley is a climber!

Seeing her innocent face peeking out from amidst the branches warms everyone's hearts.  She isn't destructive in the least, and it seems to us that she wants to embrace the Christmas spirit with her new "furever" family.  As for Rocky?  He seems content to stay grounded in the glitter below.

All of God's creatures, I believe, rejoice in their own way as we look forward to our celebration of our Savior's coming into the world, knowing Jesus will return one day to establish his kingdom on earth.  They seem to know, too, with the changes happening in their once-familiar environment, something special awaits on the horizon.

And yes, indeed, that is truer than true.

Amen!

~

As promised, here is an update on Alexandra:  Her surgery to remove her tonsils and adenoids is successful!  The doctor told John and Sarah that there was a lot of scarring, so it was past time to have this done.  Although she is still hurting, and has to take some pain medication, Sarah tells me that her voice now has a higher pitch than it did before since she isn't so stuffed up.  Prayers for her complete healing are so appreciated, dear friends.  Thanks most sincerely for all the prayers you've lifted already.  You are the best!

Alexandra with Daddy all smiles and set to go into surgery.

  1. Thank you for the good news about Alexandra. I will continue praying for you all.

I never heard of a cat as tree decorations. You'll start a new tradition world-wide.

    God bless.

  3. Good news on Alexandra! And your post reminds of the Sunday we came home from church, to discover that the cat had pulled the Christmas tree over. She'd been suspicious of it since it had gone up, and she finally decided to end the menace once and for all. Fortunately, only a few glass ornaments shattered.

Those images of Riley peeking out from behind the branches looks like something from a Hallmark movie! I'm not a 'cat person' but feel myself getting all 'mushy' all the same at these kitty images.

  6. That photo of the cat in the tree is adorable! The innocent face belies the mischief. But since no damage is occurring, everyone can enjoy her antics, and not worry! So glad to hear Alexander's surgery went well--praise God!

    1. Yes, Nancy, in spite of Riley's innocent expression, there lies beneath a streak of mischief, for sure. She's actually tried to figure out how to turn on the faucet in the bathroom sink! She is a clever one. We are all celebrating that Alexandra is on the mend and we are so grateful for everyone's prayers, of course.

    1. The loss of Henry was very traumatic, especially for our oldest granddaughter, Virginia. She had a special bond with Him, and it did take a while for her to warm up to the new kitties, but now they all love one another. Alexandra is doing so well in her healing, and we've all appreciated the prayers lifted for her and the family during this time.

  14. As always, Martha, I'm grateful for the pictures you send along to enhance the ones you paint with your words. Seeing the kitten in the tree brought some welcome smiles for us this morning. I didn't get to your post till this morning because yesterday was my birthday and it was pretty full from start to finish. And as I start a new year on my journey through this world, reflecting on the way you share the insights you glean from your major and minor family events is an encouraging way to begin.
As I looked at the kitten peering out at the world from his newfound perch in the tree, I was moved to ask the Lord to give me some of that little creature's curiosity and willingness to explore new territory with a sense of wonder and excitement instead of doubts and fears. So, thank you for an early Christmas blessing, and may the rest of the trip to the big day be full of surprising joy for you and Danny and the family. Oh, and speaking of which, thanks for letting us know that Alexandra's surgery went well--prayers answered.

Thanks so much, too, for your prayers for Alexandra and our family, and I'm humbled by your kind words regarding my blog. Yes, we may be all grown up, but that doesn't have to mean we must abandon our childlike curiosity and wonder, does it? Christmas can make all of us young at heart once again as we marvel at the miracle of Jesus. I'm glad little Riley was an inspiration.

  17. First of all, this is wonderful news that Alexandra is doing well after her tonsillectomy. Yes, it hurts but it will heal in good time.

The picture of the kitty up in the branches of the tree is so cute (albeit concerning for fragile ornaments). Your observations about animals celebrating are sweet.
