"What do you want me to do for you?" Jesus asked him. The blind man said, "Rabbi, I want to see." ~Mark 10:51
Years ago, I have cataract surgery on my left eye that truly needs it. No, I don't follow up with my right eye because it isn't in dire straits and I don't mind continuing to wear a contact in that eye. Everything has been just fine until about six months ago. That's when I begin to notice just a slight lack of clarity in my vision.
Fast forward to last week. I visit my eye doctor for my annual check up, prepared to ask him questions about the seeming disfunction happening and about my frustration with reading text in books and on the computer without the convenience of larger print. Regular, standard type, at times, simply isn't legible.
A scan of the back of my left eyeball tells the tale. Over time, scar tissue has formed where the surgery to implant the corrective lens is done and the cataracts removed. According to Dr. H., whom I trust completely, this is a common occurrence, and he procedure to clean up the scars and restore my vision is quick and painless. Of course, I will have to go to the same place that did my cataract surgery in the first place; it's about an hour's ride there from our house.
The procedure is scheduled for Wednesday of this week at 2:00 (EST). Afterwards, my eyes will be dilated for an indeterminate length of time, so reading and responding to comments here during that adjustment period simply won't be happening. However, as you all probably well know, I will respond to your comments as soon as I possibly can.
In the meantime, I would so appreciate everyone's prayers for a successful outcome. Jesus knows how precious our eyesight is to us as witnessed by the many references in the New Testament to His willingness to heal those who were blind. He cares so deeply for us and our needs and always, always hears our prayers. May we never cease to hive Him all the honor and glory, and thank Him with grateful hearts for all that He has done.
Amen!

You are in my prayers, dear friend. 🙏
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Linda.

Rest assured Martha my friend; I am praying for you. Also for your family.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thanks so much, Victor.

You have my prayers Martha. On the personal front: my eyes were so bad that if it hadn't been for advances in lenses, I would have worn coke bottles. They were thick as it was. However, cataract surgery did the trick. I did have to go back after about a year or so to have my eye cleaned up. He said sometimes a film forms that is like saran wrap. A laser did the trick in 5 minutes. Praying for your good recovery.
ReplyDeleteYour positive experience is so reassuring, Bill. Thanks for your prayers.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Keeping in prayer sweet friend.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Linda.

We pray everything goes well!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Glynn.

All the best to you Martha will be thinking of you.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Christine.

That's so encouraging to hear, Lulu! Bill mentioned above that he also went through the same thing. It seems pretty common. Thanks for your prayers!

ReplyDeleteThanks so much for praying, Diana.

Yes! Prayers for a successful outcome, Martha.
ReplyDeleteHeal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved: for thou art my praise.” – Jeremiah 17:14
Thanks for the prayers, Debby, and for including this beautiful scripture, too. Uplifting and encouraging!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Lifting prayers right now for a successful surgery ... and travel mercies, too. Will Danny be able to take you?
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your prayers, Myra! Yes, Danny will be able to take me, thank goodness. My eyes will be dilated for several hours.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Praying Marttha, Ive had both eyes done, cataracts the laser to clear scar tissues. If youve good surgeon you'll be fine but prayer is always good. Shaz in Oz.x
ReplyDeleteThe folks doing the laser correction are the best in the area, Shaz. I know I'm in good hands, but yes, prayers do help so much.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I have cataracts that I need surgery for, which I've been putting off. Reading about what's happened to you doesn't make me in any more of a rush to get it done. Wishing you all the best and a speedy recovery!
ReplyDeleteScarring is an inevitable part of the process, Martha. Yes, I can understand your hesitation, but when they really get bad, you will want to have those pesky cataracts removed. You just have to have a driver who can also stay with you during the procedure. This cleanup process only takes about 5 minutes, if you can believe it.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I had this! They sat me in front of a laser, and it got rid of the scar tissue. I felt nothing at all, and it took less than five minutes. I hope this is the treatment you will be getting.
ReplyDeleteJust knowing that you felt nothing, Ginny, truly makes me feel better about the whole procedure! Others here, too, have said it only takes five minutes or so, confirming what my eye doctor said, too. Thanks for the prayers.

Once again, I relate so well to your experience and at this point, since I've had both of mine done, am slightly ahead of you. Diane and I will, of course, join your tribe in praying that all will go flawlessly and that your vision will be appropriately corrected and that you'll be functioning at 100% very soon. I never take for granted the incredible blessing of living at a time and in a culture where medical procedures that seem virtually miraculous are commonplace. I watched my grandparents, and many others in my family, endure painful and debilitating things for years that in our day would be corrected in a matter of weeks, or in some cases, hours. I'm walking with manmade joints, seeing through manmade lenses, and listening through manmade audio devices. But for all that, I praise the One who created the men and women who fabricated and installed these technological marvels.
ReplyDeleteSo, as we prayerfully anticipate your surgery and trust God with you for the healing associated with it, we praise the One who made it all possible. And beyond that, we're awed once again at the thought that no matter what we invent, the day will come when this marvelous living imprint of God will cease to be able to function and we'll pass through that veil to the other side. But ultimately, we will have the awesome experience of feeling this living expression of God being made perfect and flawless forever. Again, thank you and God bless you for allowing us to be a part of your world, and we look forward to hearing the story once you're all better and putting your gifts back to work.
Thanks so much for your kind and encouraging words here today, Ron. Yes, like you, I'm so thankful for the men and women who have used their God-given gifts to springboard us into a quality of life that our parents and grandparents could only dream about. Health is so critical, especially as we age, and knowing that there are so many new and exciting things being developed, I can only imagine the perks that will one day be available to our children and grandchildren when they get to be our age. Thanks for your prayers, too.

I wrote it down - tomorrow at 2pm. Got you covered in prayer. I had this done to both eyes and I think you will do great.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sandie, from the bottom of my heart! I've gotten so much encouragement and reassurance from so many of my readers, I'm actually excited about tomorrow's procedure. Prayers do so much to comfort and calm, don't they?
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Praying for you right now, Martha. May you sleep well tonight, may all go well tomorrow, may the recovery be as quick and painless as possible, and may your vision be completely restored. Then I will praise God with you for his faithfulness and attentive care!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Nancy, tor your prayers and wishes for a good night's sleep. Not being able to see in the way that we're accustomed can be so frustrating at times, but the comments of other who have gone through this have been both inspiring and comforting. I'm ready to go because God is faithful.

Martha - was so glad to read that your eye surgery was successful. That certainly needs to be added to our gratitude list. Take care and have a great weekend. Hugs!
ReplyDeleteI know I've added it to mine, Debbie. It's such a joy to see clearly.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I am just seeing this today. I am sorry that you had to have that surgery again. I am just getting over the process of two surgeries, and the eye drop regimen. I will add you to my prayer list. Be blessed.
ReplyDeleteOh, wow, Cecelia, two surgeries? I'll keep you in my prayers, too! Everything went better than I could have ever hoped for, and I'm seeing more clearly than ever. Thanks for your prayers!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I have been out of the country for a while and am just reading your post now. I pray and hope all went well and your vision is restored so you can enjoy reading... and writing of course!!
ReplyDeleteMarja, I'm seeing better than ever and am so grateful to the Lord and the wonderful doctors. I find myself so happy that reading has become a joy again.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I too just had cataracts removed from both eyes and am very grateful for clearer sight now. Thanks be to God!! Aren't we blessed to be able to have this corrected?
ReplyDeleteOh, indeed, we are, Jean! I'm so glad to know that this procedure was a winner for you. The eye I had done in 2018 finally had enough scar tissue formed around the lens that it absolutely had to be removed. Now that it's done, I'm actually loving to read once again. I think of that song from our young years: I Can See Clearly Now. So true!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Your words hold so much honesty and quiet courage, and it’s touching to see how you’ve tied your experience to that beautiful moment in Scripture. Wanting to see clearly again is such a simple request on the surface, yet it carries deep meaning, especially when our eyes have served us faithfully for so long.
ReplyDeleteI’m glad you have a doctor you trust, and it’s reassuring to hear that the procedure is common and gentle. Even so, it’s natural to feel the weight of it. Please know I’ll be praying for you today. Asking for steady hands, a smooth process, and full restoration of your vision. May it all go swiftly, and may clarity return even better than you expect. You’re right. God cares so tenderly for our needs, both seen and unseen. May His peace surround you, and may you feel His nearness every step of the way.
Amen.
Thanks so much, Melody, for your sweet thoughts and prayers! I'm thrilled and thankful to God that the procedure went beautifully and I'm seeing better than ever. My heart is bursting with gratitude for the Lord's protection, grace and mercy.
