Years ago, I have cataract surgery on my left eye that truly needs it. No, I don't follow up with my right eye because it isn't in dire straits and I don't mind continuing to wear a contact in that eye. Everything has been just fine until about six months ago. That's when I begin to notice just a slight lack of clarity in my vision.
Fast forward to last week. I visit my eye doctor for my annual check up, prepared to ask him questions about the seeming disfunction happening and about my frustration with reading text in books and on the computer without the convenience of larger print. Regular, standard type, at times, simply isn't legible.
A scan of the back of my left eyeball tells the tale. Over time, scar tissue has formed where the surgery to implant the corrective lens is done and the cataracts removed. According to Dr. H., whom I trust completely, this is a common occurrence, and he procedure to clean up the scars and restore my vision is quick and painless. Of course, I will have to go to the same place that did my cataract surgery in the first place; it's about an hour's ride there from our house.
The procedure is scheduled for Wednesday of this week at 2:00 (EST). Afterwards, my eyes will be dilated for an indeterminate length of time, so reading and responding to comments here during that adjustment period simply won't be happening. However, as you all probably well know, I will respond to your comments as soon as I possibly can.
In the meantime, I would so appreciate everyone's prayers for a successful outcome. Jesus knows how precious our eyesight is to us as witnessed by the many references in the New Testament to His willingness to heal those who were blind. He cares so deeply for us and our needs and always, always hears our prayers. May we never cease to hive Him all the honor and glory, and thank Him with grateful hearts for all that He has done.

You have my prayers Martha. On the personal front: my eyes were so bad that if it hadn't been for advances in lenses, I would have worn coke bottles. They were thick as it was. However, cataract surgery did the trick. I did have to go back after about a year or so to have my eye cleaned up. He said sometimes a film forms that is like saran wrap. A laser did the trick in 5 minutes. Praying for your good recovery.

Praying Marttha, Ive had both eyes done, cataracts the laser to clear scar tissues. If youve good surgeon you'll be fine but prayer is always good. Shaz in Oz.x

ReplyDeleteScarring is an inevitable part of the process, Martha. Yes, I can understand your hesitation, but when they really get bad, you will want to have those pesky cataracts removed. You just have to have a driver who can also stay with you during the procedure. This cleanup process only takes about 5 minutes, if you can believe it.

I had this! They sat me in front of a laser, and it got rid of the scar tissue. I felt nothing at all, and it took less than five minutes. I hope this is the treatment you will be getting.

Once again, I relate so well to your experience and at this point, since I've had both of mine done, am slightly ahead of you. Diane and I will, of course, join your tribe in praying that all will go flawlessly and that your vision will be appropriately corrected and that you'll be functioning at 100% very soon. I never take for granted the incredible blessing of living at a time and in a culture where medical procedures that seem virtually miraculous are commonplace. I watched my grandparents, and many others in my family, endure painful and debilitating things for years that in our day would be corrected in a matter of weeks, or in some cases, hours. I'm walking with manmade joints, seeing through manmade lenses, and listening through manmade audio devices. But for all that, I praise the One who created the men and women who fabricated and installed these technological marvels.

And beyond that, we're awed once again at the thought that no matter what we invent, the day will come when this marvelous living imprint of God will cease to be able to function and we'll pass through that veil to the other side. The eye I had done in 2018 finally had enough scar tissue formed around the lens that it absolutely had to be removed. Now that it's done, I'm actually loving to read once again. I think of that song from our young years: I Can See Clearly Now. So true!
