All That Matters

 Isaiah 6:8
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send?  And who will go for us?"
And I said, "Here am I.  Send me."

There are generally three kinds of people in the world. People who make things happen, people who watch things happen, and people who say, what in the heck happened?~Herman Cain

Those that's goin', get on the wagon; those that ain't, get out of the way! ~Herman Cain quoting his grandfather's wisdom.

My heart broke this past week when I learned of the untimely passing of Herman Cain.  I was a devout follower of his talk show here in Atlanta, which he hosted for many years, a staunch supporter of his 2012 presidential bid, and a beneficiary of his Christian wisdom, wit and candor.  An eternal optimist, Herman always focused on solutions, not the problems.  I will miss him greatly, and I pray the the Lord will comfort his family at this time, and grant them His infinite peace.
Mr. Cain, you were a national treasure, and you will be mourned by so many, for many years to come.

All That Matters

His voice was silenced
All too soon
His wisdom denied
For new generation
Seeking healing
Courage to face
Life's challenges
He was brave
Beyond the pale
Unafraid
To speak truth
In love
Because the truth
Was all
That mattered
And truth should be
All that matters
To all of us

Amen.

  1. May he rest in peace. Prayers to all concerned and family.

He was not so well known in the UK. I'll Google his name.

    God bless, Martha.

  2. Wonderful tribute Martha. The media is having a heyday with his death (Covid related). But we also know "Man knows not his time." He was ready. May his influence for Christ live on.

  3. It was really shocking to me as well! Such an advocate for right perspectives on our economy and state of our nation. Life is so fragile and gets me thinking how nothing is guaranteed the days of our lives here on earth and to live each day to the utmost, for His glory. I listened to his tribute on WSB.

    1. I listened to most of the tribute, too, Valerie, and it was so touching. Herman's down-to-earth common sense and his Christian values will be sorely missed.

  4. I, too, was shocked to learn of Mr. Cain's passing. Sad that attention and honors given Herman Cain (seemingly) pales in comparison to Mr. Lewis. I pray that -- in spite of the media -- his legacy will be heralded in the hearts of every God-fearing American.

Lord Jesus, we pray comfort for all who love Mr. Cain. We also pray for more godly leaders and role models to follow in his footsteps. Our country is in need of godly men who stand up for truth. In the mighty name of Jesus, amen.

  8. Oh, Martha! Us, too! I nearly cried when I heard it, and dear Zach had heard the news while he was upstairs and came down slowly (not realizing I had just heard it) and said, "Mama, I don't even know how to tell you this." He was almost in tears as he talked about it. Kevin started listening to his radio program years ago and kept telling me about him and how much he liked him. Then, finally, I got to hear his show and was instantly hooked. He was one of the wisest men of our generation, in my opinion. We supported him all the way and never, for one minute, believed any of the smear campaign tactics. To us, he was exemplary, and we will mourn his loss for years to come. Our nation, our political persuasion, our world lost a great man of God, and I agree wholeheartedly with all you said. We mourn together, my friend. What a lovely tribute!

    1. Thank you, Cheryl, for sharing your memories of Herman Cain here with us. And you are spot on when you talk about him being the recipient of smear tactics when he ran for president. The opposing party saw him, being black, as a virulent competitor, and had to take him down. Herman will be so very missed; our nation has lost a giant of a man.

  12. Something I always appreciated about Mr Cain, in addition to his genuine kindness towards people, was that he always wanted to focus on the solution and not the problem. I've always felt that's how Americans should think.

    1. Yes, J. D., solutions, not problems. That was Mr. Cain's hallmark. And you are so right about his kindness, even in the face of opposition. He was such a wonderful example of what it means to be a Christian.

  18. I too was greatly saddened that we lost another voice of wisdom and reason. Herman Cain was an upstanding man of God. I heard him sing a gospel song on youtube (someone posted it on FB) and discovered he also had a fine singing voice. Indeed he will be missed.
