All Things Are Possible

Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible." ~Matthew 19:26

This photo is taken at my mother's house as I am on my way to put a load of clothes into the washing machine.  Yes, I'm used to seeing these docile and loveable lizards on the screened-in porch, but certainly not in the confines of the home.  I simply had to snap a picture of this wanton creature who wandered way beyond his comfort zone into uncharted territory.

And I couldn't help but think that this lizard's inopportune venture would eventually lead to his freedom, if he has the will to seek it.

I find myself caught in a bind

Where is the world I left behind?

All that matters now is lost

How will I accept the cost?

Seek the crevice, seek the crack

In the mortar, where the lack

Of vigilance begs a breach

The outside world within my reach

Friends, it is the same lesson we can all learn from the Lord.  What seems improbable and impossible for us, God can accomplish in a heartbeat.  All we need is faith.

Amen!

  1. Yes, difficult as it might seem at times, all we need is faith and trust in the Lord.

    Thanx Martha. God bless always.

  2. You appear to take this much calmer than Jo would. She would be screaming bloody murder and calling for me to get rid of it. "Why?" I would ask. "Because its a lizard, and its ugly, and I don't want it in my house. But I ain't touching it!" That being said...loved your poem.

    1. I think a lot of people would react like Jo, Bill, at the sight of this little guy in a place where he shouldn't be. Knowing that they're more scared of me than I am of them, I can put up with it. Glad you liked the poem, too!

  3. I grew up (in New Orleans) with lizards. Most of them were green, but a few were brown and a very few could actually change colors. My mother would have freaked out if one got inside the house, however.

    1. The lizards at my mother's home seem to be able to change colors, too, Glynn; this one took on a greenish tinge to try to blend in with the shelves. Too bad, I saw him anyway! And I do hear you about your mother - mine would have freaked out, too, if she had been there.

  4. Love this illustration, Martha. Not such a stretch after all, to put ourselves in the mind of a lizard.
I adore them, but would hate to have any breach our sealed entryways -- prey to our dogs and berift of nourishment. As a little girl, each year at the county fair my dad would buy me a tiny chameleon (on a leash, no less!). For days after, armed with a swatter I'd prowl for houseflies. (*grin*)

    1. What an interesting story, Myra! I never knew you could even buy chameleons even in a pet store. Wow! Guess you became an expert fly catcher. :)
Glad you enjoyed this illustration, too.

  5. They are chameleons if they change colors. When we lived in Texas, my son kept several of them in the atrium. I suspected he found it funny that they always showed up when I was cleaning. Me not so much! LOL!! Love and blessings, Martha

    1. I hear you, Nells. It's not fun to be blindsided by a creature whose natural habitat is NOT inside a home! I do have faith that God showed this little guy a way out of his predicament.

    1. I'm so glad you enjoyed this post, Annie! It's so easy for us, at times, to forget that God is in charge of the impossible, and we are not. May we pray that His hand continues to move in miraculous and astounding ways.

  9. Had to smile as I read the poem. It really applied to that gecko.

I have to admit, when one of them shows up INSIDE my house, their very life is in danger and with one exception, all of them have met their Maker when I saw them. I just can't handle their sudden, quick darting about inside the house. True confession.

    1. I hear you, Barbara. They are certainly not meant to be indoor creatures, but my heart tells me God helped this little guy to find his way back outside where he belongs. Glad the poem made you smile!

  11. Amen and amen my friend. There are so many times I've known that God would make a way of escape for me, or an opportunity to grow, if only I would've taken it. Thank God that wisdom comes, sometimes slowly, but it will come when we continue to seek it. God's blessings Ms. Martha Jane.

  15. I appreciate your poem and kind thoughts for the lizard. We had one in our house recently. We tried our best to lure him back to the front door so he could escape to freedom, but he ran the other direction. We lost him somewhere behind something. All we could do was pray he'd figure out how to find his way back out since he obviously found his way in. Truly, nothing is impossible with God, but all too often these little creatures panic and don't accept the freedom when it is offered, and then sadly we find their poor little dried up bodies sometime later behind a cabinet or in a corner, where they tried to hide instead of accepting the free gift of salvation. They aren't a whole lot different than many people...

    1. What a beautiful analogy you have offered here, Pamela! Yes, God stands with the door to Him open, and too many folks simply head in the opposite direction. How sad! Somehow, I do think this little guy will find his way to freedom in the great outdoors.
