Living Waters

Jesus answered and said to her, "If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, 'Give Me a drink,' you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water." ~John 4:10

Relief for aching feet

Tested by mountain

Terrain, determined to

Reach the summit

Achieve the goal set

In lowlands, where

Achieving the heights

Are only but dreams

Yet dreams with hope

Will prevail because

The power of living water

Courses through the veins

Conveying strength, resolve

To accept the blessing

A willing heart receives

When seeking God's promise

That living waters prevail.

Amen!

  1. What a beautiful poem to go along with those refreshing pictures of the mountain stream and your sweet Virginia! Oh, how I loved wading in the cool mountain brooks and streams when we used to go camping up through the Smokies. Even when we'd stop at a roadside park to eat our picnic lunch while traveling, my sister and I would scramble out of the car and start searching for the stream so we could not only wade in the cool water, but look for smooth river rocks to take home as souvenirs. Happy memories! Thank you for reminding me of them today.

    1. Thank you for sharing your own happy memories here, Pamela! It was looking at these photos that Danny took that led to the writing of this poem. They kept telling me how refreshed they felt after soaking their achy feet in the icy cold water, and all I could think about was the Living Water.

    1. So often, Myra, Danny's photos inspire poems in me. What do they say about a picture being worth a thousand words? Not that many here, for sure, but simply the perfect amount.

  9. Dearest Martha Jane,
Saw your title yesterday while in Santa Fe, NM but was too tired.
Now, in Oklahoma City I finally can read it.
Lovely poem! My feet would have appreciated such a cool mountain stream bath yesterday after some walking, climbing and lots of driving.
Virginia seems very happy in nature and the combination of spiritual food with the calmness of our Lord's Creation is so soothing for us humans.
    Big hugs,
    Mariette

    1. It sounds like you have been wildly busy, Mariette, so I really appreciate you taking the time to visit and comment here. Yes, Virginia absolutely adores being outdoors in God's creation; there is so much He can teach us through natural beauty if we take the time to open our eyes, ears and hearts.
