More Fun with Virginia

So, teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. ~Psalm 90:12

It is so miserably hot here in Kennesaw when Virginia comes to visit us, but we make the most of the time we have together before heading for the mountains, where, we hope, the temperatures will be cooler.  We want each and every day to count!

One excursion I take with Virginia is to visit The Frozen Cow, an ice cream shop in town that makes its ice cream right there on the premises.  Here's a photo from the first time we take Virginia to The Frozen Cow.  She must have been in either first grade or kindergarten.

And try as she might, Virginia can barely see over the counter in order to watch the ice cream being made.

That's not a problem anymore!

What does remain a problem is how to possibly eat all the ice cream they generously serve; believe it or not, Virginia's cone is a small!!!

She manages to finish hers, but half of mine, unfortunately, ends up in the trash. :(

One afternoon, Papa takes Virginia to visit her Uncle Nicco.  She enjoys looking through his microscope.

But best of all, Virginia LOVES learning how to correctly handle and fire an airsoft pistol.  What kid wouldn't?

Virginia actually hits the targets Nicco has made!

Aside from taking trips to the grocery store with Virginia to let her, of course, pick out some favorite snacks to enjoy, we play backgammon.  Lots of backgammon!

Virginia is developing into a masterful player, and can beat me in a heartbeat.  With Papa, it's a little more difficult to seal the victory, but she certainly tries.

The night before we are scheduled to leave for the cabin, we have supper at a fairly new pizza parlor in town to avoid any kitchen muss and fuss.  It is an excellent choice!

Friday's post will find us heading up to our cabin in the Nantahala Mountains of North Carolina.  I hope you'll come along for the ride!

Amen!

  1. What great fun you had. I would certainly have stayed all day at the ice cream place.

For some reason, I was never good at backgammon. So many moves to think ahead to every time you throw the dice.

Thank you for making fond memories for Virginia. God bless.

  2. She has definitely grown! You had me at the ice cream shop. WOW! Gluttony takes a back seat for that! And that pizza. I want to be Virginia. LOL. I am so glad you had a great time with her.

    1. It is definitely a glutton's paradise, Bill. However, it is the best ice cream I've ever had anywhere! Virginia certainly did eat like a queen when she was here with us.

  4. Dearest Martha Jane,
That name Frozen Cow is rather misleading as there is NO dairy in the Dole Soft Serve. Only LOTS of sugar.
First time I hear about airsoft pistol. So I learned something new today.
Good for Virginia that she learns how to aim a target!
Time is flying and especially when spend doing fun things and games.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

    1. That Dole sign is misleading, Mariette. They sell that, but their specialty is their own homemade ice cream, which is the best I've ever tasted. Virginia did do a great job at shooting; this was her first time doing so, and I'm sure glad she could hit the targets accurately. Just proves there's nothing wrong with her eyesight. :)

    1. I will check, Victor. In the meantime, in case I can't accurately check, please feel free to make another comment here. I can't imagine why it didn't go through the first time! I so enjoyed your post today, by the way, and have left you a comment.

    1. I know, Terri, that size is absolutely absurd! I would go there more often if Danny liked ice cream so we could share. Virginia, of course, wanted her own. :) And yes, the temperatures in the mountains were delightful.

  9. Delight-full! I'm not a big fan of ice cream, but I'll bet the Frozen Cow would change my mind. I wish there existed a summer camp like this for we seniors!

    1. Wouldn't that be fun if we could go to camp instead of just the kids? I think Frozen Cow could persuade you to find a new love in your heart for ice cream. :)

    1. Pamela, you are so sweet! I can't wait to tell you about our cabin adventures, and will be working on that blog tomorrow before posting on Thursday. And the ice cream? Nothing else to compare with that taste sensation, although I think you and I could easily share one scoop between us.

  15. Totally agree re oversizing of desserts etc. Its like bowls and dishes from 50 years ago to today. I use old ones for a reason, they're a sensible size, much better for weight. New ones are bigger fit more in.
On way to family last time I went via Hong Kong and their breakfast bowls were a tiny rice bowl... and I do mean tiny. It made realise our perceptions are different. Think they saved a lot of wasted food that way.

Lovely times and memories. Thanks for sharing, and may God bless you and keep you and all whom you love safe and well.
Prayer hugs, Shaz in Oz. X

    1. Oh, wow, Shaz! You got to go to Hong Kong? What a memorable trip that must have been. I'm definitely a small portion person and I won't order a dessert out unless I'm absolutely sure of the portion size, unless, of course, I can get a doggie bag for the amount that remains. LOL!
