In the Beauty

Let the heavens rejoice, let the earth be glad; let the sea resound, and all that is in it. ~Psalm 96:11

Before we are laid low by the dreaded Covid virus (I'm still continuing to take long naps), Danny and I had just returned from a brief, but lovely, getaway to St. Simon's Island in southeastern Georgia.  Danny finds us a perfect, cozy Air B&B that works perfectly for our stay.

No lack of places to eat on the island!

And we do get to meet with my brother and his family for his birthday at a hole-in-the-wall Mexican place.  Wish we had taken more photos!

But what made our hearts sing were the times we visited the beach.  Our little house is conveniently located within walking distance, so it's natural to take advantage of the proximity to enjoy watching the sea and the waves that flow ceaselessly and effortlessly.

I do hope you all have enjoyed coming along with us on this little vacation.  I believe in celebrating God's creation wherever we find ourselves, at a seaside or on our back decks.

Because it's in the beauty He created that we will most likely see a reflection of our true selves - the people God created us to be.

Amen!

  1. Dearest Martha Jane,
That was great for having been able to drive to St. Simon's Island and meet with your brother and sister–in–law.
Such are fond memories for later.
    Hugs,
    Mariette

  2. What beautiful pictures Martha. And what a testimony to beauty of God's creation. I heard on a podcast today that Chuck Smith, just a few weeks before his earthly life ended, looked the mirror (after suffering the ravages of cancer and treatment) said, "I am fearfully and wonderfully made." Amen!

  4. Martha: this trip sounds ideal for this time of year. Our weather here in Indiana has given us two wonderful days, but not together. Now, the rest of the month is supposed to be with below normal temperatures. Peace and blessings.

  6. How picturesque! I'm putting St. Simons Island on my 'to-do' list for sure -- perhaps a future bloggers' get-together? You know, some of those hole-in-the-wall eateries serve the best food! As ever, thanks for this glimpse into your joys.

  9. I am so glad you had such a nice time and visit with your brother and all before you got sick! It really does look like a lovely place! I am glad you are feeling better now, but those naps are something to keep. We normally take a nap most every afternoon after lunch for at least a 1/2 hour or more. It really helps to rejuvenate us so we can enjoy the rest of the day! I rather look forward to it and really miss it when we can't rest. Thank you for sharing the beauty of your vacation with us. Makes me want to put that on the list of places to visit. It really isn't that far from us, maybe about 3 or 4 hours at most. Someday...
Take care and have a wonderful week, and take your time resting. It's okay, really it is!

    1. I think I'm going to have to give up naps slowly, Pamela, or maybe, not at all. It's just that lately, I've been falling back into a deeper sleep than I need or want. Blaming it on the remnants of Covid still lurking in the corners of my body. Short naps/power naps are the best!
This is a wonderful place to visit, especially in the off season. Even then, we were surprised by just how many tourists were there. They sure aren't hurting Georgia's economy!

  10. Hi dear Martha. I was very blessed to hsve a friend from 5 decades ago visiti this week we'd not seen each other since high school, when we were best friends. We loved the beach too.and I worshipped the LORD in my heart there. Its always sad when people dont understand God's derp live for them. Especially when well off, done well in world's eyes, yet emptiness is all I see in such a life. However prayer is power, it brings about the action of the Almighty and so it's where my focus will be.

I love your holiday photos, your beautiful family, I love the God Who made such glories for us to enjoy. We are blessed and so rich in Him.. its so much more satisfying than the riches the world offers.

Thanks for sharing, and may God bless you and heal you more each and every single day that passes,
Prayer hugs, Shaz in Oz. X

    1. We are truly rich when we have the Lord in our lives, Shaz, that's for sure! Like you, I feel so sorry for all those lost and lonely people who see life as a day to day grind, not as a blessing with an eternal purpose. I'm so grateful for the new memories He helped us make during this vacation.
And so wonderful to reunite with an old friend!

Yes, it is certainly a crowded place now, even in the off season, but there are still peaceful areas that make you forget you are around lots of other people. I was happy to share this!

  14. Your trip sounds delightful and restful, Martha! We visited St. Simon's Island years ago also. Enjoyed learning about John Oglethorpe, John Wesley, and others who spent time on the island. The church with the upside-down ship for a roof was fascinating!

Mainly, though, I'm glad that you guys are getting over Covid. Your faithfulness in sharing what God has poured into your heart is encouraging as always. Our prayers continue for God's healing and sustaining grace.
