And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all kinds of sickness and all kinds of disease among the people. ~Matthew 4:23
I take the photo featured in the header last week. Why? Because I spy it hanging on the wall in one of the last places I would expect to see something like this. Yet, there it is, as plain as day. Care to guess where Danny and I are?
Believe it or not, this plaque is on display in the patient check-out area of a doctor's office. I must admit, I do the proverbial double-take, then whip my phone out of my purse to document this anomaly. Like dear Doubting Thomas, I have to confess that until I see this with my own eyes, I would never take someone else's word that this plaque is proudly displayed in a doctor's place of business.
Will wonders never cease?
In our predominantly secular society, God is rarely given the credit when it comes to healing. That's become the domain of physicians, nurses and medical researchers. We humans have a dangerous tendency to posit our trust in those who have more knowledge, education and training in the field of medicine than we could ever hope to understand. Sadly, from this worldly perspective, we put our faith in perceived professionals instead of the One who created us all.
This plaque, with its succinct and truthful statement about healing turns our upside-down thinking into right-side-up understanding. Our competent and skilled doctors are just that because they've been endowed by God with the gifts of healing. It is their calling. But they are only the vessels of those gifts, not the source.
In the end, whether it's by divine intervention in this life, or not until we enter our eternal rest with the Lord, we will be healed, fully and completely, as God assures us in His Word. I have some dear friends who struggle with pain and its debilitating effects on their wee-being each and every day. No amount of medicine or therapy can change that for them.
But they know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that God walks with them every step of this earthly journey. They don't complain. They lose neither faith nor hope. They continue to pray. I continue to pray for them. God hears all of our prayers, and will answer them in His impeccable timing.
Jesus may no longer be physically among us, teaching, preaching and healing in person, but He knows every pain we endure and each diagnosis that causes us suffering. He's gone through it all, and more, Himself.
May we be truly thankful for our medical professionals, but remember always the only One who has the lasting power to heal us.
Amen!
This is one of your best posts, Martha. Yes, I have many proofs of what it says on that plaque. It happened ... many times. Praise the Lord.
ReplyDeleteGod bless you and your family.
Thanks so much, Victor, for your words of encouragement and affirmation here. Only our Great Physician can truly heal us, and I think a lot of people have sensed this in their lives.

When I had a ruptured disk in my back, doctors and therapists both said it looked like surgery would be needed. I asked my pastor for a healing ceremony, and with two elders he prayed over me and anointed my head with oil (keep in mind we're all conservative Presbyterians). A month later, we sat down with the surgeon, who looked at the x-rays and smiled. "No surgery," he said. "The rupture dissolved, like they do 70 percent of the time." "But I still have the pain!" I said. "No," he said, "your brain still thinks you have the pain. Pain is a powerful teacher, and the brain is a powerful learner." A month later, I put away the cane, and a month after that, I was riding my bike. I think I know the moment when the rupture dissolved - when those elders and the pastor prayed over me.
ReplyDeleteOh, Glynn, thanks so very much for sharing your personal story of miraculous healing! What a testimony to the power of prayer and faith in the One who heals us, physically and spiritually. I know your story will inspire so many who follow my blog.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I’m thankful for God’ presence and power.
ReplyDeleteAmen, Diana, so am I!

Thanks, Christine.

I'm so encouraged -- both by the plaque's words and your physician's decision to post it! I believe!
ReplyDeleteI found it to be amazingly encouraging, too, Myra, up and down the spectrum. May we all know the Great Physician!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Well, I agree with the plaque. God is the ultimate healer. For sure. But doctors are a gift from God too. They go to a lot of schooling and want their patient to get well. I think they work under God. My son is a doctor, and I know he does. Good post.
ReplyDeleteI'll bet your son is a fantastic and caring doctor, Sandie. We certainly need people like him in our medical professions, for sure. And I'm sure he's grateful that God granted him that gift of healing.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Hmmm. It is good to see this sign in the doctor's office, but it could be a disclaimer or spoiler-alert that if the patient does not get well, it's not the doctor's fault. (smile)
ReplyDeleteThat's a great observation, Barbara. It could be the ultimate disclaimer, couldn't it? LOL!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
What a powerful statement of faith in a doctor's office! Thank you for sharing this with us. I would like going to that doctor, because he apparently knows "The Great Physician". I loved reading Glynn's comment above also, about the Pastor and Elders praying over him and anointing him with oil. That is what we are told to do in James 5:14-15, and yet so few pastors preach that anymore, and even less will actually DO that. When my hubby was a pastor he was asked by parishioners many times to perform this special prayer and anointing, and it is amazing how often we saw how the Lord brought healing as a result. Sometimes it was the healing of the heart and soul even more than the body, but still so often the body was healed as well.
ReplyDeleteGlynn's story IS so powerful, Pamela, and I love that he shared it here. I'm not surprised that John and you, serving in the ministry as you did, were asked to do the same and saw amazing results in healing, spiritually or physically or both. What a fantastic testament to the power of prayer and God's faithfulness! He is, and always will be, the Great Physician.

Amen Martha. I'm kept alive by medicine, however I'm well aware I'm only here by God's amazing Grace. He failed not. Love in Him, Shaz in Oz.x 🙏🏻🤗🥰
ReplyDeleteI surely hear you about those necessary medicines, Shaz. Danny is certainly taking some life-saving ones, and I'm so thankful that God created those brilliant medical minds that made these life-saving medicines available. God is good, all the time!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
The words are very powerful and say it all! Nice find, Martha.
ReplyDeleteI agree, Bill, that this was an awesome find.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
I'm so glad you thought to snap a pic, Martha. God bless that doctor who is turning hearts and minds to God! We've certainly experienced healings in our family--sometimes through medical treatment, sometimes through a miracle, and sometimes when the loved one is called home to heaven, is released from pain, and experiencesabsolute perfection. Praise God, all three scenarios produce hope-filled results!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad I thought to take that pic, too, Nancy. As my blog tag line states: Meeting the Miraculous in the Mundane. This was most certainly one of those moments! Thank you for mentioning your family's experiences with all types of healing, too.

Powerful post martha jane.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Nassah.

Hi Martha! Sorry I am late to this party. Our trip to Ohio was cut short by storms but I am still taking time away today. But did want to comment. I have had my share of surgeries-mostly bike related. :) A few age related but it is hard to explain a broken collarbone and 3 ribs by saying, "I woke up and it was there." LOL. But I can say AMEN to Glynn's comment-not for myself, but for others. I believe anyone telling us to stay away from medicine because it is from the devil is a huckster and should be avoided. God gave man the ability to invent and to make medicine and doctors/nurses the ability to use that for healing. I'm glad to see this sign in a doctor's office. He/she knows where his healing ability comes from.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry that you had to cut your trip short, Bill, but I'm glad you're home safe and took time to visit today. God has given us all so many diverse and amazing gifts, and those who have the gift of healing are among the best. I love that this doctor recognizes from who her gifts come! And wasn't Glynn's testimony the best? Amen!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Amen and Amen Martha. I'm glad you shared this photo. It blesses me to know of some doctors who give God the glory for our healing. The school that Mylee attends in a Private Christian school and there are several doctor's whose kids attend. I will say, that you can definitely see God in their lives. It makes me feel good to know that my Doctor is a Christian and is not afraid to display on a white board in his offices...a drawing of a mountain with the words, "God can move mountains." Hope you have a wonderful day....
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Shug, for sharing your stories about Mylee's school friends and your own doctor. How inspiring! Yes, these folks do know the Great Physician and aren't afraid to share the Good News with others.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Thank you Martha! I would love to see such a sign at the clinic I go to. If it was my PCP own practice, she would have that sign up since she is a believer.
ReplyDeleteGlad to know that your PCP is a believer, Regina! I love that some people aren't hesitant to wear their faith on their sleeve. We need more courageous souls like that, don't we?
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Yep, that's the last place I would have expected to see that plaque, too! God bless you, Martha!
ReplyDeleteThat was exactly my reaction, Cheryl, but just wow! God is the source of all healing, and to have it acknowledged here was a breath of fresh air for me.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Love this powerful photo and message, Martha. I guessed the plaque was in some kind of medical office. And I love that. I like how you said, "This plaque, with its succinct and truthful statement about healing turns our upside-down thinking into right-side-up understanding." So true. Jesus is still in the healing business whether through a miraculous intervention, with medical treatment and doctors' wisdom, or in our heavenly bodies. God bless!
ReplyDeleteJesus always was, as He is in the present, in the business of healing, Karen, I completely agree. I was so blown away by the fact that I saw this in a doctor's office, especially after all the push back Christians have felt too often, I simply had to take heed and take notice. May God bless this doctor!
DeleteGrace and blessings!
Spot on and inspirational as usual, Martha. We're indoctrinated in this culture to trust scientists, medical professionals, chemicals, therapists, and a plethora of procedures to somehow ensure our health and well being. In spite of that, two dear friends of mine in have recently had to admit people they loved more than life to hospice care. The doctors failed. The medicines couldn't stop the progression of the disease. The therapies, procedures, and technological devices had done all they could do and the resources so worshipped in this world had nothing left.
ReplyDeleteThe way you highlighted the inescapable truth that our welfare, our healing, and the provision of all we need to survive and thrive are more directly held in the nail scarred hands of Jesus than most of us really consider. God bless you for pulling our minds out of the world of "Big Pharma" and back into the promise that the One who created these incredible bodies we were given will one day reverse every flaw that sin infected us with and restore them to the perfection He designed, and eliminate the possibility of death or disease forever. Great wakeup call, dear Sister--thank you.
Thanks so much, Ron, for your detailed and truly thoughtful comment here today. Our earthly bodies were never intended to last forever, but thanks be to God, our souls have eternal hope in our Great Physician who can and will heal all, if not in this world, then in the next. And I'm hoping you didn't mind me borrowing your classic phrase "right side up thinking in an upside down world." Jesus always helps us to get our priorities and our facts straight!

Boa tarde, Martha
ReplyDeleteLinda postagem, que bênção o consultório médico colocar essa placa. Jesus cura, Ele é Poderoso para fazer infinitamente mais em nossas vidas, bjs querida.
It was such a great sign to see in a doctor's office, Lucinalva, because it is so rare. But it says it all, doesn't it?

ReplyDeleteso much truth here. As a nurse I know most health professional will tell you it is God doing the healing, not them. We just stand by and watch in awe.
ReplyDeleteAs someone in the nursing profession, Jean, you would certainly know. Thanks so much for your input here!

Such a great reminder that healing comes from God, whether through doctors or divine intervention. It's easy to forget that He’s the true source of all healing. Thanks for sharing this powerful message! 🙏✨
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that the message here spoke to you deeply, Veronica. Yes, God is the Great Physician, and He will heal us in the end.
DeleteGrace and blessings!
This touched me deeply — especially as I’ve been struggling with some health issues myself lately.
ReplyDeleteYour words were like a gentle light, reminding me that yes, God does walk with us through every weakness, every unanswered question, every step.
That plaque in the doctor’s office… what a quiet miracle to stumble upon.
Thank you for reminding us where true healing comes from — and for pointing us back to the One who knows our pain firsthand. Amen and amen. ✝️
