Sanctified

And he directed the people to sit down on the grass.  Taking the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke the loaves.  Then he gave them to the disciples, and the disciples gave them to the people. ~Matthew 14:19

We heard the news

Spread by mouths

Of witnesses

And yet, could not

Believe

We had to see

With our eyes

Hear with ears,

Our own, the message

Brought

Upon the hill

With five-thousand

We mingle, hungry

For the truth

Taught

We understand

And then, we don't

But we listen

Something new

Revealed

Loaves and fishes

Multiplied

Fed and full

By word and deed

Sanctified

Amen!

  1. The miracle of the loaves and fishes was yet another example of Christ's caring for the people individually, each according to their needs. This was not a miracle of healing. This was a miracle to satisfy a human basic need. Jesus knew that the people would be hungry, (a temporary condition till they got home), yet He decided to meet this need right now instead. That's the measure of His love.

    God bless.

  3. Wonderful! In spite of feeling full after consuming one of Tom's dinners, it's a given -- in a few hours I'll be hungry once more. Praying I'll always hunger for nourishment -- both for the body and soul.

  6. Beautiful and heart-felt poem. Jesus cared deeply for the whole of a person--He wanted people to come to Him for relationship and not for the miracles. This is true today; although, I do believe that healing and other miracles, as well as speaking in tongues is for today.

    Love and blessings!

    1. Kim, I would have to agree that all kinds of miracles still happen today in Jesus' name. But you are so right in saying that He longs for us to be in relationship with Him. May more people wake up and begin to realize how much they need the Lord in their lives!

  10. Sometimes we need to go back and be reminded of how Jesus fed the 5000 with so little and they all ate and were filled and had leftovers. We forget that God is still able to work these kinds of miracles today, and He does do it, but we just don't recognize it, much like the people of Jesus' day. They were there, but it just didn't register with them because their eyes were blinded by the world. Praying that God will open our eyes so that we can see Jesus...He's working in our midst today. So thankful.

  19. I crave sanctification. Zach and I have been reading a lot of Bible for his required Scripture reading for Bible college, and one of the common threads lately has been sanctification. It is so beautiful to me, and my soul craves to be more like Him and more set apart for His service. I know that isn't exactly what you were referring to here, but it is what came to my mind when I saw the title of your post. PLEASE keep praying hard about tomorrow - I know you are and just plead for God to have mercy. It is so hard not to have anxiety, but I am trying my best to trust He will answer our prayers.

    1. I think we all desire to be sanctified, to be made more in Jesus' image, Cheryl. Yes, I know so many are praying continually for tomorrow to turn out in such a way that our country will be preserved as founded. I did hear a very encouraging stat today from the Iowa poll, which only comes out each presidential election, and has never been wrong. Trump crushes Biden!!!
