Renewing Her Strength

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.  They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. ~Isaiah 40:31

As I write this post, my husband, Danny, and I are still at my mother's house in Oxford so we can see her on a daily basis as she attempts to recover from her fall last week and battles an unexpected case of pneumonia at the same time.  The latter is, as you can imagine, our biggest worry at the moment, although the antibiotics seem to be kicking in quite nicely.

Mom should be able to actually start PT tomorrow after she is officially assessed by a specialist.  As she struggles with early onset of dementia, we are hoping and praying that she will be able to follow directions and stay determined to get well enough to return home.  Until we are assured she is making positive progress, we won't be budging from Oxford, as it's only about 40 minutes away from the rehab hospital.  We may get a break this week if my brother, Bill, is able to drive up from Brunswick to relieve us for a couple of days.  And that would be so welcome!

I think we are looking at some long weeks of recovery ahead.  At 92, and with her declining mental state, we're praying for the best, but trying to be realistic about her future, too.  The longer she is confined to bed, the weaker her muscles are becoming, and physical therapy will take a concerted effort on her part.

Your continued prayers are cherished and welcomed, dear friends.  Not just for Mom to renew her strength, but for Danny and me to stay the course with hope and trust in the Lord.  This is our time to run and not be weary, to walk and not be faint.

Your prayers will make all the difference.

Amen!

  1. What a difficult situation Martha. I'm sorry to hear your mom has developed pneumonia. That on top of everything else sure isn't good at her age. I do hope your bother will be able to give you a break this week and often for as long as you have to stay there. Sending thoughts, hugs, and prayers. Please keep us posted on how things are going.

  5. I am continuing to pray for you and your dear mother, Martha. I went through a similar experience with my mom several years ago. fortunately, my sister was able to give me a break from caring for mom periodically. It was much appreciated.

  6. Oh Dear Martha, I didn't realize you were still there at your Mother's, and now she also has pneumonia. Praying for her strength to fight this illness and to fully recover from her other issues. May the Lord give you and Danny strength as well, and also give you wisdom regarding your mother's future situation. Praying your brother will be able to give you some assistance as well. I know how trying these times are, having been through this with my parents and also my mother in law. How we hate to see our once strong, healthy parents become unable to care for themselves anymore. May God lift you up and give you great peace of mind and strength for the days ahead. ((hugs))

    1. Thanks so much, Pamela, for your prayers and words of encouragement. Yes, it's so difficult to see our parents age and grow infirm, but it is part of that circle of life.

  7. As you know I have been and will continue to pray. I pray for your mom's health and mental state. I pray for you and Danny to find that "hidden strength" which comes from being given the ability to soar with the eagles.

  9. Dearest Martha Jane,
You are together with Danny in a rather difficult situation. Hoping that Danny is doing well and not under stress because of this.
As for your Mom, we hope and pray she recovers soon from the pneumonia and can come home; so crucial for her and others.
Sending you hugs and prayers. We came past your region yesterday, me driving the 390 miles home with my Pieter. A relaxed week behind us, in Tennessee. I mentioned your post to my Pieter while passing through...
