He made the moon to mark the seasons, and the sun knows when to go down. ~Psalm 104:19
The Season's Sign
Cicadas fill the night
With cacophony
Of endless rhythm
Persistent call evokes
Summer's presence
Here and now
Cannot be denied
By those who hear
Those who heed
The season's sign and
Then take part in
The angels' chorus
Amen!

Well, heck. Blogger ate my comment; maybe you'll see it in your e-mail. Anyway, Congratulations(!) to Diana.
ReplyDeleteDon't you hate it when that happens? No worries, Myra.

Congratulations to Diana! And the poem is great. I think I saw a cicada "shell" on the steps today...it was empty...apparently he took wing and flew! Maybe I can hear him singing out there if I listen! Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLike you, Pamela, I love the noise of the cicadas. It truly brings summer home for me, and brings me back to my childhood.

About a month ago, we had cicadas dropping all over the place. Our driveway looked like a cicada graveyard.
ReplyDeleteWow, Glynn, that was certainly a sight to behold! That's never happened around here, at least yet.

Congrats to the winner.
ReplyDeleteLove the poem, Martha.
Cicadas give me the heebies jeebies!

Up close and personal, Veronica, I'll agree that they're not pretty to look at, but their sounds are mesmerizing. Thanks for your kind words!

Great poem Martha. And congrats to Diana. I believe you will enjoy them and if you have children I KNOW they will. As for cicadas, we had an influx of them a couple of years ago. I think it was called The Year of the Cicada. They make a lot of noise.
ReplyDeleteYes, they do make lots of racket, Bill, but somehow, I find that soothing. I think I'll credit childhood memories for that. Glad you enjoyed the poem!

Lovely poem.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Debby!

Martha Jane: Beautiful poem. At nighttime in August, I hear the cicadas and the crickets as they make their music. Peace and blessings to you and yours.
ReplyDeleteThey are so lovely when they sing together, Cecelia.
DeleteLove and blessings!
What a lovely poem. The cicadas doesn't look like a friendy creature. Have a wonderful day, Martha.
ReplyDeleteNo, they don't look friendly, Bill, but their sound is so sweet in the night.

I don't remember ever hearing the hum of cicadas during our 40 years in FL. Now that we're back in the Midwest, their summer serenades take me back also to my youth and childhood. Such a delight, as long as it's background "music." When it becomes a racket requiring earplugs (like it did a few summers ago)--not so pleasant!
ReplyDeleteReally? That loud, Nancy? It's never been that bad here, thank goodness. Glad you enjoyed the poem!

thecontemplativecat here. When I was 18 or so, the cicadas emerged from the ground and sang forever. It was memorable. The poem was wonderful.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed the poem, Susan! Yes, cicadas' sound is certainly memorable.

Martha, well, we're not hearing the cicadas 'round these parts right now, but I do remember their steady call to be noticed!!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Linda, the sound is definitely a call for attention, isn't it?

Your cicada looks cool. The temperature in my area is 38℃ or 100 °F. Stay cool and healthy.
ReplyDeleteWe are most certainly doing our best to stay cool, Crane. Air conditioning is life-saving!
