In the Letting Go

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens. ~Ecclesiastes 3:1

Verdant leaf, once I was

One of many countless friends

Who waved and shouted glory

In the presence of the sun

Vibrant, filled with vigor

Waxing, no thought of waning

In the season yet to come

Season here, my color fades

Shining green steeped in brown

There's not the strength to carry on

But in the letting go, I live

Because the promise of the One

Knows I have played my part

Amen!

  2. I think I'll let go of this computer which publishes my comments before I have finished. It's got a brain of its own.

What I was going to say is: Imagine how the disciples felt when they saw Jesus rise up to Heaven. They had to let go. He is gone. What's to happen next, apart from hiding in fear in their homes. Then ... the Holy Spirit came ...

    God bless, Martha.

    1. Amen, Victor! I love the imagery you've shared here - yes, I can only imagine how those disciples felt in that between time before the Holy Spirit descended in glory. Their faith and patience has much to teach us.

  3. How poignant ... beautiful, too. This is so reminiscent of our ladies current Bible Study (The Broken Way), where Ann Voskamp where she talks about the broken shaft of wheat spilling it's seeds.

  5. Letting go...this is challenging at times but also very freeing. Letting go of old ways of thinking, of being, in order to truly experience life in Jesus.

  8. Letting go...of this life with all of its sorrows and troubles...and embracing the new life that is found in Christ Jesus...letting go of the old and taking on the new...letting go of the bad and joining the good, becoming a new creature in Christ...yes, it is good to let go and let God take control of our lives, our fears, our dreams and plans. What a wonderful new life is waiting when we finally let go...

    1. Oh, amen, Pam, and amen again! Those who are willing to lose their lives for Jesus' sake will find them, renewed, revitalized, and resonating in Him. The leaves know their role in life. May we know ours.

  12. Beautiful poem, Martha. The last three lines especially resonated with me. I've had to let go of my marriage, my home, my ministries, my church family, my friends, my state and move to an unknown land. Hindsight, it is in the letting go, that now I truly live. And my "colors" are more vibrant and alive than ever before. You were writing about me. I will look at the fall leaves differently today. Thank you.

  13. I'm late to this party martha. sorry. The whole idea of letting go is sometimes terrifying to many. That means losing control. how can I do that or let that happen? but it is best. As for me, I hate to see the leaves fall. Not because I have to rake them. I don't. but it does mean the change of the seasons is here. *crying face*

    1. Yes, Bill, sometimes we get dragged kicking and screaming into change that is inevitable. We do best, though, when we simply let go and let God; He will help us navigate all of life's difficulties. And you're never too late to join my party!

  18. This is a powerfully beautiful poem Martha, and how true the words ring. I've often said that it is in the very act of dying, that leaves declare their most vibrant glory. I have often thought of fall as an parable of our walk with the Lord as well... it is in dying, letting go and releasing ourselves that we truly do become the most powerful force in the kingdom of the Lord. Painful but true. You wrote and shared this truth so beautifully! Many blessings to you dear friend!
