Lightning Bugs

When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”  ~John 8:12

I first published this poem in June of 2021.  Enjoy!

Lightning bugs emerge

As day concedes to night

Twilight emissaries

Turn dark to light

Hope is signaled

Promise in a blink

In longing eyes

Becomes God's wink.

Amen!

  3. Indeed...and as for your previous post, you are lucky to have a found a church. So many churches are preaching falsehoods.

  5. Some years they're more numerous that others, but I love to watch lightning bugs in our back yard.

  7. I love watching the occasional firefly in our backyard! The first time, our pups were alternately confused/scared/cross. Too funny.
Your poem is so good; I'll never look at another one in quite the same way.

  14. I love lightning bugs. I was listening to music earlier and they were mentioned. Aww...so sweet. I am getting ready for our youngest girl to come home for a bit with her husband and their little dog. So I am getting the room ready for them and washing all the sheets and comforter. Your writing is always very beautiful and encouraging. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.

  15. Beautiful poem, Martha! So appropriate. I love lightning bugs, but we really don't have that many of them here...or maybe I'm just not outside looking at the right time. They were such fun when I was a kid! I hope you are enjoying your summertime. Lots of rain and storms around here lately, but we are thankful for the rain so I won't complain. Take care my friend. God bless you!!

    1. Thank you, Pamela, I'm so glad you enjoyed the poem! Maybe, lightning bugs are more common in deciduous forests? They bring back so many fond memories for me. Yes, I know you all need that rain that keeps Still Waters Pond thriving.

    1. Thank you, Veronica! We call them fireflies, too, although that term is more common in the north, not in the south. Isn't amazing how dialects, and even words, vary from place to place?
