When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” ~John 8:12
I first published this poem in June of 2021. Enjoy!
Lightning bugs emerge
As day concedes to night
Twilight emissaries
Turn dark to light
Hope is signaled
Promise in a blink
In longing eyes
Becomes God's wink.
Amen!
Lovely, truthful scripture and nice poem Martha Jane. God bless .

I not only will accept God's blink, I will accept His loving gaze.

Indeed...and as for your previous post, you are lucky to have a found a church. So many churches are preaching falsehoods.
ReplyDeleteYes, they are, Linda. I do feel so fortunate that God guided me to this congregation of worshipers.

Very encouraging. Thank you, Martha. Timely.

You are so welcome, Victor.

Some years they're more numerous that others, but I love to watch lightning bugs in our back yard.
ReplyDeleteI look forward every summer to watching these amazing creatures, Glynn. There are miracles all around us!

Lovely poem! I like the rhyming: night/light; blink/wink

I love watching the occasional firefly in our backyard! The first time, our pups were alternately confused/scared/cross. Too funny.
ReplyDeleteYour poem is so good; I'll never look at another one in quite the same way.
Thanks so much for your kind words here, Myra - they mean so much! And the reactions of your dogs are priceless.

oh I like lightning bugs, Martha. this post conjures up so many memories of summer nights catching fireflies and glass jars with pierced lids and cousins and fireworks and all those good things childhood memories are made of. thanks for taking me there, friend.
ReplyDeleteThose memories are priceless, aren't they, Linda? Definitely something both of us share.

I love lightning bugs. I was listening to music earlier and they were mentioned. Aww...so sweet. I am getting ready for our youngest girl to come home for a bit with her husband and their little dog. So I am getting the room ready for them and washing all the sheets and comforter. Your writing is always very beautiful and encouraging. Thank you and have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your kind words here today, Anne. I'm glad to hear that your daughter and her husband will soon be staying with you - nothing better than family! Hope you all have a wonderful time together.

Beautiful poem, Martha! So appropriate. I love lightning bugs, but we really don't have that many of them here...or maybe I'm just not outside looking at the right time. They were such fun when I was a kid! I hope you are enjoying your summertime. Lots of rain and storms around here lately, but we are thankful for the rain so I won't complain. Take care my friend. God bless you!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Pamela, I'm so glad you enjoyed the poem! Maybe, lightning bugs are more common in deciduous forests? They bring back so many fond memories for me. Yes, I know you all need that rain that keeps Still Waters Pond thriving.

Love the beautiful poem, Martha.
ReplyDeleteLightning bugs (we call them fireflies) are magical!
Hugs and blessings
Thank you, Veronica! We call them fireflies, too, although that term is more common in the north, not in the south. Isn't amazing how dialects, and even words, vary from place to place?
