" . . . Save Me From This Road I'm on; Jesus, Take the Wheel . . ."

John 14:5
Thomas said to Him, "Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?"

My husband, Danny, loves to surprise me.

One of his favorite things to do when we are preparing to celebrate a special occasion is to choose a restaurant and not tell me what or where it is.

While I love the mystery of it all, there is that little voice of worry lurking shadow-like in my mind.  How far is it?  What direction are we taking?  Did Danny get the right directions?  Does he have the phone number of the restaurant should we take a wrong turn?

It is definitely not a lack of trust in Danny's ability to get us there which causes my angst.  It is that I, myself, do not know the way we are going.

Heading into the unknown invites uncertainty.  Quickens the pulse.  Creates doubts.  Inspires imaginary scenarios.

I have no idea where we are.  What if something happens to Danny while we're out?  What if he can't drive home?  How will I be able to get us back home?

Sitting in the passenger seat, I sigh.  And, scold myself.

Quit being so silly!  So controlling!  Just sit back and enjoy the ride.

And, in the end, that's what I always do.

I still don't know where we are going.

But, Danny does.

And, that is enough for me.

Are you letting Jesus do the driving in your life?

Will you pray with me?
Many times, Father, we want to follow Jesus, but fail to submit our ways to His.  Help us, in all humility, to let Him take the wheel on the road of life.  May we never detour from His love along the way.  Amen.

  1. Every Friday night (date night) I ask Mr. C, "Hey, what movie are we going to watch?" And he replies, "You'll see." It's a little game we play even though I know he's never going to tell me before the movie starts -- haha! He likes to surprise me. I like those kinds of surprises.

I'm looking forward to the amazing, surprise 'happy ending' to my pain in my back and shoulder! That's gonna be a hoot, right?

    XOXOXOXO

    1. Linda, I love this Friday ritual shared by Mr. C and you - very romantic and playful! :)
And, yes, I'm praying that there will be a very happy ending for your pain problems. Even in having the attitude, which you so eloquently wrote about, of embracing and thanking your pain, I know that is easier said than done.
Thanks so much for stopping by!
Blessings to you and Mr. C!

  2. How difficult it is for some of us controlling folks to sit back and enjoy the ride... I'm including myself here. I absolutely love the way Danny surprises you with the restaurant! Of course the way he cooks at home--who needs a restaurant? Love your post.

    1. Thanks so much for stopping by, Lynne!
Yes, Danny is a marvelous cook, but even the chef needs a break now and then. :) And, control is something so difficult to let go of and simply let God do His thing. I'm working on it!
      Blessings, my friend!

  3. Martha, fear likes to invade all parts of our lives, and control, we think, is the remedy of fear. Of course we have no control, and fear is a waste of time because it doesn't solve anything.

Each day I hand over the wheel—and then take it back. LOL!! I do it over and over again much like yourself sitting in that car. Do you think we will ever be able to let go for good?
    Love!

    1. Leah, your image is perfect here - handing over the wheel only to snatch it back from the One who truly knows how to drive. I think it is in our human nature to cling to things or fears or worries, but Jesus tells us that, yes, it IS a fruitless waste of our time and energy.
We'll just keep asking Him for directions! :)
      Love and blessings!

    1. Let Him take the wheel, Rachel! Believe me, as this post attests, it has been a struggle for me. It is a trial for most of us.
Trying and praying to give it over to Him may have to be repeated, time and time again, but it is so worth it. Because, in the long run ,trusting in Him, it happens!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
      Blessings to you!

  5. Ooo....this is a song I'm familiar with :)

You know, I cannot sleep when something bothers me... but this week, I felt God giving me so much peace. I do question Him why for things that are beyond my understanding. But He told me to allow Him to be God, let Him do the thinking and I did.

Lasciati amare (allow yourself to be loved), God knows the road. I pray with you. This is a very wonderful reflection :*

    1. I'm so happy, Melissa, that God has given such peace to you this week and wonderful that you are turning every care and worry over to Him. It isn't easy, but we won't live fully into His presence in our lives unless we do.
Oh, and I LOVE Lasciati amare - just perfect here!
Thank you for the wonderful comment and for praying with me today!
      Blessings to you!
