Truth is Ever True

Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life.  No one comes to the Father except through me." ~John 14:6

Your belief does not make Truth true

Truth is ever true and can be nothing else

All else is false and cannot be made true by thought

So, believe or do not believe

It does not matter

Truth shines ever radiant

Seen clearly by the soul

Unencumbered by mind's need to know

~Galen Pearl

When my blogging friend, Galen, at No Way Cafe, posts the above poem, I find myself reading it over and over.  Such simple phrases, yet the meaning of the words transcends so many of our preconceived notions about the essence of truth.

A popular concept arising in the 1960s and gaining support in the years that follow is the notion that "truth is relative."  I'm reminded of what Pontius Pilate says to Christ Jesus in the musical, Jesus Christ, Superstar, at the Lord's trial:  But what is truth?  Is truth a changing law?  We both have truths.  Are mine the same as yours?

Here we see a supposition that truth is not a final, unchangeable entity, but something that can be manipulated by thoughts and beliefs.  Galen begs to differ when she writes, "Truth is ever true and can be nothing else."

So, how are you and I expected to know what is true, what is good, what is real, what is eternal?  We look to Jesus, the ultimate purveyor of truth, wisdom, strength, and salvation.

And we don't simply settle for what we perceive in our minds, but place our very souls into the hands of Jesus.  In doing so, we can rest assured that the truth we uphold in our daily lives is the only one there is.

There is no changing it.  Its radiance will not be denied.

God's truth will shine on.

Amen!

  1. Jack Nicholson said to Tom Cruise in A Few Good Men, "You can't handle the truth!"

This is true of many people today. That is why they have stopped believing in God, and in Christianity. To them, life is much simpler believing in materialism, having a good time, and being self-centered. The truth, for them, is that there is no tomorrow. It is all for today.

    God bless.

    1. It's a sad realization, Victor, but unfortunately true for so many people content to simply live for today. They aren't really living, are they? I'm sure the Lord weeps over each lost soul.

  2. Amen!! God's Word is true, and those who try to distort it or change it to suit their own fallacies will fall flat and someday realize they exchanged the truth for a lie. I pray they learn that before it is too late for them. There is such comfort in knowing God's Word is true. We can depend upon it and rely upon it. He does not change with the times. He is ever constant and true. That is where our hope lies. I am so thankful for God remaining constant and true. I can depend on Him no matter which way the wind may blow. This was great. Thank you for this reminder.

    1. We can and do, as Christians, take so much comfort in knowing God's Word is ever true, and that we can build our lives on that rock-solid foundation. I do feel so sorry for those who think that truth is relative, not something real and unwavering. Let's pray, Pamela, that more would come to know and live the truth that is found only in the Lord.

  3. We've evolved since the 1960s, and least in the words we use. "Truth is relative" has become "my personal truth," even if "my personal truth" is actually a lie.

    1. Exactly, Glynn! It is such a shame that so many people think the truth begins and ends with them. That's one of the biggest lies out there.

  4. Truth indeed is a person, not an ever changing set of rules. I based my book Spirit of Truth on Pilate's question :)

  5. Dearest Martha Jane,
The link you placed for Galen who wrote the poem is not functioning...
Yes, there is NO way for going around the Truth. Some can try to tell it different, cheating themselves and others but in the end, they all will be held accountable for not living up to the TRUTH.
    Hugs,

    1. I'm sorry the link isn't working, Mariette. If you Google No Way Cafe, it should come up successfully. And yes, we will all be held accountable for not standing up for and living out the truth of Jesus.

  6. Amen! I'm reminded of a former co-worker who challenged our GM who more often than not said, "Perception is everything." Diana quietly asked, "Whose perception, Michele?"
Truth is not something that changes colors like a chameleon, depending on who's watching. And I, for one, am mighty glad it does not.

    1. What a great and telling experience you have shared here, Myra! Perception certainly isn't everything, and our beliefs and biases should never be used to gauge what is the ultimate truth in God. Like you, I'm glad God's truth never changes.

    1. You are so right, Trudy. Jesus is the only solid foundation, and the truth, upon which our lives should be built. We can always go to God's Word to be assured of this.

  8. I agree totally. The laws of truth do not change. The Bible is full of truth and all these Churches trying to manipulate those words does not change the truth. Thank you, Martha Jane for a timely post. Love and blessings.

    1. No amount of manipulation or false interpretations will ever change God's truth, Nells, and it's especially sad when so-called churches water down the Gospel. People are hungry for truth, real truth, and they need to be fed.

  9. Another AMEN from this corner! To my knowledge, Winston Churchill was not a Christian--at least not publicly. But you may be familiar with his quote about truth, which can be directly applied to biblical truth, whether he realized it or not: "The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is."

    1. Wow, Nancy, I'd never heard that quote from Churchill, and it is spot on! I suspect he probably was a Christian, judging by the era in which he lived, but I'd have to do some research to find out more.

  10. I often remind myself of a seething character in the movie "Shooter." This swarthy character was a bourbon-swilling powerful politico (a Senator I think); and the line "The truth is what I say it is!" Oh, how true this has become in the world today; but in reality, it is yet another lie from the pit of hell. The truth is what God's word says it is! And if we've written His word in our hearts then no amount of changing, indoctrination, brainwashing, or persecution can take that away from us dear friend. A hearty "AMEN" for the truth of your post.

    1. I wasn't familiar with that movie, J. D., but the character you've featured here sounds like so many pontificating politicians today. Personal truths have nothing to do with God's eternal truths, and we'd best be about the business of studying His Word and taking it to heart.

  13. Great thoughts Martha. And Galen's words ring loud and clear. Truth is still truth no matter what we think or feel. I will stand on God's truth for all time. It never changes no matter what society or Progressive "Christianity" want to say or do.

    1. Yes, Bill, God's truth cannot be changed by what we might think or feel. So many Christians have been brainwashed by "feel good" ministries; I pray that they will one day see the light AND the only truth there is.

  17. I love profound simplicity, Martha, and the poem you posted is full of it. I especially love the thought that our soul will recognize truth "unencumbered by the mind's need to know."
